and son [CountryStars]:
When Shania is working, like she has been this year,
her song Eja travels with her and she makes sure she gets quality time
with him. "He's very good, I mean he's been traveling since he was born so
he's been on the go from Day One and he's great with it all, really good,"
Shania says gratefully. "It's tiring," Twain admits. "But I make little
rules, you know. I like to be home every night for bath and bed time and
we spend our mornings together. Or I'll make sure there's a time in the
middle of the day if I can't be there in the evenings, that I get to go
visit him and we have lunch together. And you know, we always manage to, I
think, spend more time together than a lot of mums get to that work 8 to
5. So I find it's pretty manageable."
0402.27-Shania
named as one of Country's influential artists: [Country
Weekly]: Shania was named one of ten
influential artists
in Country Music. Of all the superstars in country music, Shania Twain has
come the farthest. From her impoverished beginnings in northern Ontario,
Canada, she skyrocketed to international success in the mid-'90s, with
scores of hits, armfuls of awards (including Entertainer of the Year
honors from the CMA and ACM) and a position as the best-selling female
country artist of all time....While Shania landed her record deal in large
part because of her original material, her self-titled debut album in 1993
featured only one of her songs. But that changed after she met a
long-distance admirer named Robert John "Mutt" Lange, a successful rock
producer who loved her voice and her original songs. He soon became her
biggest supporter and later her husband. Living today in Switzerland with
their son, Eja, the power couple has written, produced and recorded songs
that have taken Shania's career into the stratosphere. And they've done it
their way, with a style that's instantly identifiable and universally
appealing. Be sure to pick up the special cover with Shania!!

takes Glasgow [Scotsman]:
Shania
partied with her fans in Scotland tonight:
....That
Don’t Impress Me Much or Man, I Feel Like A Woman? These Twain standards
are among the few self-consciously pop songs of our time which have
transcended mere big hit status to become part of social tradition. In a
spangly pink stetson. Twain’s appeal is that of the glamorous girl
next door, but there are a few things which separate her from lesser
mortals. Her multi-million-selling albums. Her technically impressive and
hugely expensive in-the-round stage set-up. Her talent for singing and
signing autographs at the same time. The way she teams a vest top and
hockey boots with diamanté jewellery. Her personal air-conditioning system
which gently wafts through her freshly Silvikrined mane of hair. But, in
many ways, Twain is just like you and me. She enjoys a laugh with her
buddies and, to that end, she has hired the perkiest backing band ever to
fit round a circular stage. They hopped up to join Twain on her central
plateau; she leapt down to skirt the perimeter of the stage, on a
perpetual tour of duty. There were extended hands to touch, programmes to
sign, toys to receive and babies to kiss. Boy, did Shania work that
hall....

According to

gross over 100 million dollars.
0402.21-Shania
looks to the future:
Finally,
the amount of "good times" Shania Twain has to appreciate is growing daily
while she continues to sell albums by the millions and continues to reach
out to her audience through a world tour that will take her to five
continents before it's over later this year. The question is, how long
will Shania continue to build what is already the most successful female
country singing career in history? Shania sees no end in sight,
anticipating a cycle of taking time off to write and record an album, then
returning to the concert trail to perform it for the people. "Well, I was
looking forward to the change again (this last time). I mean I'm just
always going to need change. I've been in this music industry since I was
a very young child, always traveling, always going new places, meeting new
people, so I think it's just in my blood now and I would be very bored if
I wasn't doing this. So I need the change anyway. And the 3 1/2 years of
sitting to write the music, make a record, have a baby was long enough and
I really did look forward to just getting out and then sharing the music
and changing the pace again. So it's again just another refreshing change
for me."
0402.21-Shania's
down time:
Shania's
personal and real affection for her fans is just one example of how
down-to-earth she is. She's a real person who has her life priorities in
order, particularly since the birth of her son, Eja. "Well, it's
been a real change of priorities of course but just naturally. I mean it's
just been a pleasure to change my priorities because in a way, you know,
when you're the mom---especially 'cause I nursed for the first 14
months---I became more of a priority in my life than I'd ever been before.
I had to really take care of myself, get more rest and you know, 'cause
you have to be there for your baby. So in a sense I had to start paying
more attention to myself and I kinda liked that, so. And I get more time,
more quality down time because I have a child now. I get to go to the zoo
and I get to go to the park and I'm doing things that I wouldn't have done
if I didn't have a child in my down time."
0402.19-Shania's
simple pleasures [CountryStars]:
Given a little time just to herself, what does
Shania like to do? She says, "Well, I enjoy getting a massage, that would
be luxurious. I enjoy being with horses, I'm like a kid in a candy store
if I'm around horses for the day. And just doing laid back things. A day
of luxury would be reading, just sitting to read, or a day in a book
store, that would be really fun."
0402.19-Shania
has no complaints [CMT
Canada]:
SHANIA continues her Up! world tour in London and
Belfast this week. Shania reports, “Things are very, very good right now.
Of course we travel a lot – we’ll be traveling constantly for at least the
next year. Life is going good – I have no complaints. It’s tiring juggling
career and being a mom at the same time, but really life is great.”
0402.17-Shania
Presents Brit Award:
Shania
presented the International Male Vocalist Award to Justin Timberlake. And
no, there was no Super Bowl antics:
0402.17-Down
to earth [CountryStars]:
When you have enough money to live like a queen,
with others doing menial tasks for you, Shania Twain says she resists
giving over personal tasks to others. "I do a lot of my own shopping.
Sometimes I have somebody go out and just pick out a bunch of stuff for me
if I'm in a rush and I'll pick through it, but I'm pretty hands on that
way. I wouldn't just let someone dress me, I like to pick things that are
comfortable and that's the most important thing, whether it's in fashion
or not, it has to be comfortable. So I'm very involved in all of that;
after all I have to wear it, so..."
Shania also doesn't feel that she has to appear looking like "Shania" the
star every day. "Oh, there are a lot of days where it's very low
key. Make-up for sure. You know, I don't always use a make-up artist. It's
a little bit of both I think, it just depends on what it is that I'm
doing."

Shania already [ic]:
Shania
continues to take Europe by storm!!!! Check out this review from IC:
Such is the popularity of US singer Shania Twain
that another show has already been booked at Newcastle's MetroRadio Arena
next month.
And on Saturday night it was easy to see why; the lady has class. Songs
such as Honey I'm Home, Don't Be Stupid (You Know I Love You) and That
Don't Impress Me Much are now part of the national subconscious.
Even people who don't know the singer must be aware of the songs from
shopping centre tapes, car radios, pub juke boxes and the like. Backed by
a slick band, she raced through a dynamic repertoire beginning with Man! I
feel like a Woman! Shania used to be a country singer, but Saturday's
performance was pure rock and roll. She signed autographs while in full
voice and hauled a girl up from the audience for one number, where they
performed an impressive duet. She even wore a Newcastle United top for the
last few songs, to the approval of the audience. We left hoping to secure
tickets for the next Arena show in March, so uplifting had the experience
been.

0402.14-Shania
has fans eating out of her hand:
Shania
performed in Sheffield England on the 13th, and according to
Sheffield Today : Shania Twain has probably
never heard of the late Tommy Cooper but their effect on a Sheffield
audience bear a striking resemblance. Old-timers will regale you with
tales of how the comedian would stand behind the curtain at the Fiesta,
with just his shoes slightly peeping out under the curtain. He didn't
really have to do much after that; he had them eating out of his hand.
Fast forward to 2004 and the Hallam FM Arena. Twain's opening gambit is to
appear behind a giant curtain and utter the line: "Are you ready,
Sheffield?" The sell-out crowd were, the atmosphere utterly and
overwhelmingly electric, the diehards in the front rows up on their feet
already. Feel Like a Woman was for starters and she didn't disappoint her
adoring fans. The session, complete with her slick band, including the
fiddlers three, ended after two hours with fireworks and streamers, and
everyone seemed to have enjoyed it. She's back on March 8 at the Arena.
Well worth the experience. If

movie update [Toronto
Star]:
The CBC is
working on a movie about Shania Twain. Well some more details are now
available. The movie will focus on Shania's life in Timmins, and end at
the point she goes to Nashville. Robin Eggar, who wrote the book that the
movies is based on was a bit concern that his work would have been chopped
up. However after meeting with the screenwriters he is happy with the
direction of the production. So what was the inspiration behind this
movie? "They came onto her story in an interesting
way," says the lanky Eggar, stretching out his denim-clad legs in his
publisher's downtown office last week. "They had wanted to do something
about child poverty in Canada, but they insisted there had to be an
uplifting message at the end." A jagged grin splits his face. "So
they asked themselves, `Who do we know in this country who grew up really
poor and then made it really big?' and the answer, of course, was Shania
Twain." The more Eggar talked to Alper, the more he liked his ideas. "He
was coming at it from a different angle, not another shoddy showbiz
knock-off, but a story about the real woman."

popular in Brazil [Western
Producer]:
...They
love country music here, and they love Shania Twain. "She is very popular
here, very famous, the most famous in the world," said Maria Moreira,
manager of the Som Des Pistas music store in the shopping mall of this
city of 200,000. Her storefront, which faces the mall's food court, holds
a large screen TV that repeatedly plays Shania Twain concert videos, and
the store's main wall holds a large poster for the Canadian superstar's Up
album, flanked on each side by a TV showing the same Shania concert.
"In country music, it's one of the best selling albums," said Nirley
Mendonca, a store clerk...

Grammy Predictions [CMT]:
Chet Flippo
and his CMT writers who usually attack Shania, did say some nice things
about her, in their picks for the Grammy Awards:
For Best
Country Vocal Performance:
Flippo: Patty's lovely "On Your Way Home" is
my pick, but Shania has one of her strongest songs ever.
Shelburne: Loveless' "On Your Way Home" moved me the most, but I'd
suggest that Twain ought to make room on her mantle.
Best Country Song [goes to songwriter]:
Flippo: That drinking thang biases Academy
voters, so toss out "Beer" and "Five O'Clock." "Celebrity" feels a bit too
frivolous for NARAS voters. Pat Green is still too green and unknown for
the voters. Take it home, Shania.
Shelburne: Shania, of course. It's the only ballad here, and it's
also the most melodic. This is where she'll be rewarded for keeping
country music in the public eye.
Gilbert: They're all perfectly good songs, but I agree that it's
hard to imagine any of them will be deemed a classic a decade from now.
The closest thing would be "Forever and For Always."
Best Country Album:
Flippo: You would think that the two Willies
would cancel each other out. It's not Faith's year karma-wise for this
album. Lyle always has a shot, and Shania is the favorite. My pick is the
superb Louvin tribute album.
Morris: With fingers crossed and motor running, I give the laurels
here to Shania Twain's Up! But my heart and vote are pledged to the
various-artisted Livin', Lovin', Losin': Songs of the Louvin Brothers.
Shelburne: The Louvin tribute just might take it, considering that
34 artists appear on the album. Plus, it's magnificent. Lyle Lovett won
this award in 1996 and might capture it again. But my final prediction is
Shania Twain.

Photographer
Richard Mclaren took some pictures of Shania that have been used in some
magazines to promote her latest album Up!. Check out his website.
0402.03-Super
Bowl Shania's fault?? [Times
Record]:
Yes
ladies and gentleman, Mark Kreidler from the Times Record News says we
should have seen Janet's performance coming. Since Shania performed on the
show last year.
....Instead,
it's deflecting blame and trying to get the world to believe it didn't see
this coming. But it saw this coming - in deed, if not in specific detail.
If you saw Shania Twain in her S&M outfit in San Diego last year, you
pretty much knew there weren't many boundaries left for the Super
Spectacle....
Here is a
novel idea, blame Janet and Justin for the antics, and not Shania. Let
Mark know what you think, he can be reached via email at:
mkreidler@sacbee.com
0402.03-Up!
One disc or two? [CountryStars]:
...the status of Shania Twain's UP! sales is a bit
confusing. Normally, every disc in an album release is counted. If it's
one disc that sells a million, then the count certified is 1 million. If
there are 5 discs in a single collection of works and the collection sells
a million, then that album collection will be certified for 5 million
records sold. In Shania's case, when Up!, first came out, she decided to
count the two-disc set as just one unit sold, going against what the RIAA
certifying company normally does. So, when 5 million, two-disc units were
sold, people have referred to it as 5 times platinum. But, a month or so
back, Shania and her label apparently decided they should be consistent
with the normal practice of crediting all discs in a collection of songs
on one album, and have now embraced the larger 10 million albums sold
figure to be able to add another "Diamond" (10 million-selling) album to
Shania's amazing career.
