The annual awards from the Canadian Association of Broadcasters are presented at a lunchtime gala in Toronto during Canadian Music Week, a four-day concert showcase and networking event drawing artists and music industry insiders from across the country and abroad. DocBill a Shania fan from the "Shania Twain North American Online Fan Club", has started working on a new charity initiative. He wants to form a group of marathon runners to raise money for important causes. One of them being Second Harvest Food Bank, one of Shania's favorite charity organizations. Shania has won 2 Cactus Awards in the 4th annual Cactus Awards, held every January. The awards those artists who have made significant impact on the Chart Country Top 40 over the past twelve months. Shania won Female Artist of the Year, and Canadian Artist of the Year.  Congratulations Shania!!!!

In an article from 1999, Shania pointed out the hypocrisy that is even today rampant on Music Row, and on country radio. Twain is well-versed in country music history and she bridles at the idea of Nashville insiders believing her pop sensibilities and foreign passport mean she's ignorant about country music. "They're out there trying to find artists who are "true" and "real" and they're getting singers who just got out of college and have probably never listened to a Tammy Wynette album in their life," she says. "But because they're from, oh, Texas or something, they have a license to be considered a country artiste and I don't. I don't get it."
