0301.28-Sports Illustrated talks with Shania: [Sports Illus.]

Some Questions and Answers:

SI: McDonald's made you an honorary employee for life. What does that entitle you to?

Twain: All the burgers I'm not going to eat as a vegetarian.

SI: I saw something that said 47 percent of the songs on your album Up! have an exclamation point in the title. What's up with all the exclamation points?

Twain: I'm expressive. I want to punctuate those lyrics.

SI: Your husband used to work out to your songs before he married you. Does he still listen to your music while he's exercising?

Twain: Yeah, he still listens to my stuff when he's exercising.

0301.28-Did she or didn't she? [MSN]

Shania's performance at the Super Bowl has sparked intense debate amongst her fans. The question, did Shania sing?  Well, it looks like we found the answer....Explainer: Lip-Syncing With Shania Twain

Paul Liszewski, who produced the sound for the show, says Shania's mic was hot and her vocals were live. (Other audio engineers who watched the broadcast agreed.) Twain's accompaniment, however, was what's called a "band in a box," which means the back-up vocals and instrumentals we heard were prerecorded. So while the diva was belting out show-stoppers like "Man, I Feel Like a Woman," her onstage drummer was thrashing away merely for effect.

0301.26-Shania gets ready to fly:[CMT Canada]

Who is the only performer in history to play the half time shows at both the Grey Cup and the Superbowl? That would be SHANIA TWAIN. Shania is everywhere right now, including flying above the crowd at today’s Superbowl half time extravaganza. At a press conference late last week in Los Angeles, Shania announced she will sing two songs during the show, “Man, I Feel Like a Woman!” and “Up!” Asked to project about what it will be like to play the Superbowl half time show as compared to the Grey Cup, Shania said, “It’s going to be great, but I don’t know if I can compare the two. I love sports and all the excitement, so it should be pretty much the same.” There will be a few differences though this time around. Shania won’t need to wear a yellow parka this time but, instead will be suspended above the crowd on a crane. A world-wide audience of an estimated 800 million will see the spectacle that will also include performances from NO DOUBT, DIXIE CHICKS and CELINE DION.

Juno Awards organizers say their Web site failed, until yesterday, to promote host city Ottawa because their server blew up after the popular Shania Twain was announced as host of the event.....Spokeswoman Julie Giles said last night the Juno Web site has had technical problems for the last week, ever since Ms. Twain was announced as host.

"The server blew," Ms. Giles said.

0301.20-Up! Up! and  Away!:[CountryStars]

Last week Shania said the Super Bowl XXXVII halftime show at San Diego's Qualcomm stadium would be a huge bash, and some details of how big are out: SHANIA opens and will be flown over the crowd suspended from a crane amid lots of pyrotechnics while she sings "Up" and "Man I Feel Like a Woman." Over 3000 people will participate on the field, most of them ordinary fans invited to just jump around and have fun. The stage will extend from the field into the crowd for the first time ever. 300 Marines will be involved in setting up the stage in five minutes, later tearing it down in five minutes all for a show that will last 11 minutes. A fireworks display is the grand finale.

0301.20-Shania has not released her best stuff yet: [CountryStars]: Considering the tens of millions of albums she's sold, it's a scary thought that Shania Twain has yet to roll out her best stuff. But, MJI quotes from her upcoming Feb. 2 cover story in Rolling Stone where she says she may never release what she thinks is her best stuff. "I think I'm capable of doing a lot more - I don't even think what I do is my best." Shania's not putting her current stuff down, "Because the fans like it." Besides she says, "I don't have confidence in what I think is my best," she explains, adding that she doubts it would sell. Meanwhile, Shania heads to San Diego this week for rehearsals for her big performance during the half time show for Super Bowl XXXVII this Sunday.

0301.19-Shania misses her roots, and meets an admirer  [CMT Canada]:   Considering all the upcoming performances and appearances that SHANIA has on her 2003 plate, the reports that surfaced before Christmas that she’d rather stay away from the stage are looking pretty exaggerated. According to WCHS TV though, Shania does have a preference for where she likes to perform. She says that sometimes she’s tempted to hop on the stage at a small club and sing when she passes one by and hears the music coming from inside. Shania says she spent so many years singing in clubs that she sometimes misses it, although she never thought she’d say that. That doesn’t mean that she doesn’t sing in front of the huge crowds that come to see her now, though. She says she likes the ‘‘rush of the roar and the whole environment of thousands and thousands of people’’, but that sometimes the “audience is so far away.” One close up audience she did have recently was with admitted admirer, JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, after the American Music Awards. Justin recently professed a Shania crush to Rolling Stone Magazine. Shania dropped by a party hosted by Teen People after the AMAs where she and Justin met up and held an animated discussion at a private booth. They hugged and went their separate ways shortly thereafter.

0301.19-Shania on News Stands:

Shania is on the cover of various magazines, the latest being EVE in the UK and on the cover of Rolling Stone.

From Rolling Stone:

"The only credit I take for anything is that I work very hard," Twain says. "Mutt does, too. I think I'm capable of doing a lot more -- I don't even think what I do is my best. But I don't want to make light of it, because the fans like it. I do music that I think can do best on a commercial level." So why not put out her best and see what happens? She grimaces at the suggestion. "I don't have confidence in what I think is my best. Maybe my artistic best wouldn't be considered valid commercially. But I'm not looking for recognition on it. I don't even really care if anybody ever hears it."

0301.03-Shania to host Juno Awards[ca.tv]

Shania Twain to host the 2003 Juno Awards
By Angela Mulholland, CTV.ca News Staff

Canada's own Shania Twain has yet one more reason to feel "Up." The sassy superstar with a best-selling album on the charts has signed on to host the 2003 JUNO Awards.

The crossover-country star from Timmins, Ont. will head the festivities on Sunday, April 6, 2003 from the Corel Centre in Ottawa. The awards show will be broadcast on CTV.

Twain, who's got three JUNOs of her own back home, announced she'll make her JUNO-hosting debut Monday evening in a pre-taped message as part of CTV's broadcast of the American Music Awards.

For those looking for a little Shania-style entertainment, fear not. She's gonna getcha what you need. The crowd-pleasing entertainer is planning to perform at the awards.

"I can't wait!" said Twain of the news. "It's going to be a lot of fun and it will be great to come back home."

Nominees for the JUNOs will be announced in mid-February, says the Awards' organizer, the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.

"We are delighted to have Shania Twain host the 2003 JUNO Awards," said Ross Reynolds, Chairman of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), producers of the awards. "She is a spectacular talent, a wonderful person and an outstanding ambassador for Canadian music."

A multiple JUNO, Grammy and American Music Award winner, Twain is riding high on the success of her new album, UP!, which debuted at #1 on the album charts and was the highest-selling album of 2002, according to Nielsen Soundscan. She's been featured on the cover of Time magazine and will perform at the Superbowl half-time show on Jan. 26.

Twain's latest album has had unprecedented sales in Canada, achieving a million copies in only nine weeks. UP! Is Twain's first offering since her record-breaking 1997 album, Come On Over, which smashed records on both the pop and country music charts. With worldwide sales topping 35 million, it is the most successful female solo album ever.

"She's on top of the musical world and a cornerstone of what we intend to be another memorable broadcast for Canadians everywhere."

0301.13-Shania's Up! at the AMA's:[YAHOO]

Shania Twain (news) likes to get close to her fans, so she climbed a giant metal staircase in the audience to reach the upper balcony of the Shrine Auditorium during her performance.

"That's what makes it fun for me. Without the audience, it's just all like in my video, it's not really all that exciting," she said.

Twain dismissed talk that she doesn't want to perform live anymore as misunderstood.

"I prefer being in concert. It's my favorite thing," she said. "I guess it's television that I'm not as crazy about. I'm just a little more relaxed in concert with my fans. My passion is more in songwriting than it is in performing and being a star. Someday it will all go away and I guess my point is that it's OK if it does."

Twain will headline the halftime show at the Super Bowl in San Diego on Jan. 26.

Asked for a preview of her performance, she said, "Hopefully something exciting and dynamic. Just some fun clothes and something really again including the audience. No more stair climbing for me."

0301.07-New Video on it's way! [STNAOFC]

Shania's new single Up! has a new video! Billboard has also reviewed the single:

It's UP!, up! and away for Shania Twain's new double-disc, which fulfilled all promises to rule the roost over the all-important holiday season. Second single "UP!" is hardly rewriting the artist's songbook, but it shoots directly at the heart of what has made Twain one of country's most consistent female hitmakers: It's life-loving, instantly singable, uptempo, and wraps things up in a hasty three minutes. The previous "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!" peaked at a surprisingly low No.7 on Hot Country Singles and Tracks, perhaps because of its liberal lifting from a couple of her past hits. This one sounds like it's got the goods to go the distance, and with the media machine blazing--Twain has cover stories in the new year in Rolling Stone, In Style, Redbook, Seventeen, and Blender--the Shania galaxy is definitely looking nothing but up. 0301.06-She's Still The One: [Country Now]

Shania TwainWhen I was doing vocals [for UP!], there were a few frustrating moments there because I was very overtired; I was still nursing, and the baby was in the studio with me because I was still nursing every couple of hours -- every two to four hours -- and the baby was just in the next booth and I just had the monitor on and I would sing in between nursing . . . and I sing best at night, so it would be late. It was just a real balancing act. And so I did my vocals quite tired and it took a lot . . . from Mutt to get the best out of me. But I was in a very good frame of mind for it. And it came, and I'm very happy with everything. [click picture for full story]

Shania is scheduled to perform at Super Bowl XXXVII!!!!

About: Super Bowl XXXVII : Press  Release Shania Twain to Perform Live During AT&T Wireless Super Bowl XXXVII Halftime Show
Monday January 6, 4:41 pm ET

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Musical superstar SHANIA TWAIN will perform live at the Super Bowl in San Diego during the AT&T WIRELESS SUPER BOWL XXXVII HALFTIME SHOW, the NFL announced today.

Slated this year for Sunday, Jan. 26 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, the Super Bowl is annually the nation's highest-rated TV program and the most-watched single-day sporting event. This year's game will be televised live on ABC to an expected 130 million viewers in the United States and 800 million viewers worldwide.

"The AT&T Wireless Super Bowl Halftime Show is an important part of the Super Bowl and one of the most widely viewed entertainment events of the year," said NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue. "We are pleased that the spectacular talent of Shania Twain will become part of our Super Bowl halftime tradition."

"I can't imagine anyone getting up to go to the refrigerator with Shania Twain performing on the 50-yard line," said Michael Sievert, Chief Marketing Officer, AT&T Wireless. "Everything about this year's AT&T Wireless Super Bowl XXXVII Halftime Show promises to be nothing short of spectacular."

The AT&T WIRELESS SUPER BOWL XXXVII HALFTIME SHOW will be executive produced by music and entertainment industry icons JIMMY IOVINE, chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records, and JOEL GALLEN, director-producer of Tenth Planet Productions.

Twain is on her way to becoming the first artist ever with three 10 million-selling albums, after her latest release, "Up!" The record setting new album sold a staggering 874,000 its debut week and has held the charts at number 1 for five consecutive weeks. This album followed the success of "Come On Over", which was the most successful female solo artist album of all-time with world-wide sales of over 34 million and the release of "The Woman in Me", another 10 million plus seller.

Twain has been accorded endless awards and honors since breaking into the country music scene in 1995. She has won five Grammy Awards, named Entertainer of the Year in 1999 and 2000 by the Academy of Country Music and Country Music Association; and captured 22 BMI songwriting awards. The five Grammy Awards included: 1999 for Best Female Vocal Country Performance for "Man I Feel Like A Woman"; 1999 for Best Country Song "Come on Over"; 1998 for Best Female Country Performance for "You're Still The One"; 1998 for Best Country Song, "You're Still The One" and 1995 for Best Country Album, "The Woman In Me".

0301.05-"The Singer In Me"-[Yahoo]

Shania Twain says there is a distinct difference between her live performance voice and her recorded studio voice, but less so since she started recording albums. Having made a living singing cover songs at various clubs, Twain says she struggled with somewhat of an identity crisis when it came to performing her own songs.
"I think what happened to me was I grew up making a living singing other people's music, and I hadn't really found my own voice singing out performance-wise and with microphones," Twain told LAUNCH. "I was just copying records, so the true me singer was just the person sitting with the guitar writing songs, but that was never the person up on stage, because the person up on stage was just making a living trying to sound like everybody else, and I think that's where I got confused, 'cause I was never able to make a living at my own music up until I started making records."
