0501.27-STC Announces FAN CON 3!!!! [STC]:

Here is the message posted on the Shania Twain Centre web site from Tracy: Hello Shania Fans!
Many of you have been waiting for the official announcement of the Third Annual Shania Twain Centre Fan Convention dates, and we thank you for your patience. This year, the convention will run from August 18-21, with lots of great activities for you to enjoy. We are also going to add an additional "twist" for fans that are interested in seeing some of Shania's other Ontario connections. We have secured a motor coach that will pick fans up in Toronto on August 17th, and drive them to Timmins, with a stop at Deerhurst resort for lunch and a tour. On August 22nd the motor coach will bring fans back to Toronto through Sudbury, with a quick look at the school Shania attended, and some other interesting stops that we are still working on. This bus tour will not be included in the registration fee for the convention, but will be an add-on that fans can choose. Of course, we will have a wonderful host on the bus that will make the trip exciting and full of interesting "Shania" facts. I will have registration rates, bus tour rates, and a tentative agenda in the next few days, but I just wanted to give everyone the dates so they can start booking time off. (Pick up and drop off for the bus tour will be at a set location near Pearson International Airport in Toronto)

This is from an interview Shania did for "In her own words" on VH1 when Up! was released. Check it out, it is a really good interview!!! Here is what Shania says about Country Music and songwriting in Nashville: I'd stay up all night and write songs, but nobody wanted to do that. Everybody stops at five o'clock! [Laughs.] You would have three and four-hour writing sessions that you'd book like doctor appointments. I would say, “What do you mean we can only write from nine to 12? What if we're right in the middle of a really good idea and we break for lunch?” It was a system that I didn't understand. I wanted to meet the young Willie Nelsons, Waylon Jennings and Dolly Partons. I come from a rough enough background that I can relate to all the stories that they wrote. It's the country music I grew up with. I was more disappointed that those people didn’t represent Nashville anymore.

And, of course, I want it to be successful, but I'm not looking at the scale and going, 'Who's beating me or whatever.' So there's just different types...." "I, definitely, I'm in my own race. I don't have that nature. It just breeds jealously because then you're a sore loser. And how can you lose in music anyway? It's all a matter of opinion. There's no losing or winning. Maybe that's because I come from a poor background."

0501.23-First Wedding at the STC [STC]:

Councilor Andrew Marks exchanged vows with fiancée Christine Reid in the main foyer of the Shania Twain Centre this past New Year’s Eve. The couple was married by city clerk Jack Watson. It was Watson’s second marriage since a provincial law came into effect allowing city clerks to perform marriages. The Shania Twain Centre is taking bookings for weddings for this year. In celebration of the Shania's Wishes for Spring disc launch and to support the fight against hunger, P&G will donate $100,000 to America's Second Harvest, a charity close to Shania's heart. Despite a 30% drop in sales, Shania Twain's "Greatest Hits" remains at the top of the new Billboard Top Country Albums chart. 69,000 copies of the disc were sold last week.

0501.12-More Platinum for Shania:

Shania Twain's Greatest Hits album is the first compilation from the multi-Grammy, platinum-selling artist. Comprising Twain's finest moments Greatest Hits receives its first Platinum Europe Award, gaining Twain her tenth Platinum Award overall for album sales across Europe.

0501.12-Four Winds, Shania's influence:

CMT Canada has been running a new special "Four Winds" that profiles Canadian Singer / Songwriters. The show discussed Shania's influence on country music with her songwriting, style, and performances. They also mentioned how she single handedly ticked off Nashville, and how George Strait and Alan Jackson wrote "Murder on Music Row" directed at Shania, and the waves she created on Music Row. Shania talked about writing the Up! album.

The CBC is putting together a telethon to raise money for Tsunami relief, Cochrane said Shania Twain was in New Zealand and expressed her regrets but would be making a "sizeable" donation.

0501.10-"Mark, I'm recording a new single..." [Extra]:

From the EXTRA TV website, a viewer sent in the following question to Mark in regards to his duet with Shania. Mark: I didn't. I was a fan, like everybody else, and I was surprised when her husband, Mutt Lange, who's her producer (and one of the most successful producers in the business; I'm a fan of his, too), personally called and asked if I'd like to do the duet. I said, "Is everybody else busy? I mean, why are you calling me?" But of course I jumped at the chance and went over to Europe for the song, the video and a promotional tour. Now she's become a friend, which is amazing, to think you have Shania as a friend. We took private planes, went to lots of shows in Holland and Germany, she gets escorted everywhere, and the mayor shuts down the street. She's at such a superstar level, but she's the most down-home, girl-next-door-type person ever. She kind of laughs at the whole thing and doesn't expect it. It's inspirational how she handles things. She's the most normal-person mega-superstar, two things you don't usually hear in the same sentence.

According to a poll taken by Workopolis, Shania has the second most appealing voice according to Canadians who participated in the poll. "The top three voices chosen by Canadians - Peter Mansbridge, Shania Twain and Lloyd Robertson - all convey a sense of confidence, composure and personality," said Patrick Sullivan, President of Workopolis....Quebeckers were most taken by the sound of Shania Twain, with more than one-third (38%) citing her voice as the most appealing.

Country megastar Shania Twain had another amazing year in 2004. Her 2002 studio album, Up!, was certified 11 times Platinum while her 1997 blockbuster, Come On Over, was certified 20 times Platinum, easily remaining the best selling country album of all time. Twain's Greatest Hits closed out the year certified triple Platinum.
