0303.31-The Timmins shrine to its favorite daughter doesn't draw the numbers that Graceland does - yet. Give it a little time [National Post]
There are 1,157 kilometres between New York City and Timmins, Ont. If you obey the speed limits along the way, the trip takes about 19 hours. Last summer, a woman and two friends made this epic journey from the Big Apple to the City with a Heart of Gold. Now, I don't know the woman's name -- I was told of her trek by a Timmins tourist agent -- but I do know two salient details about her: First, the woman convinced her friends to make the trip solely so she could see the Shania Twain Centre, a museum and shrine dedicated to the singer; second, the woman was a tourist visiting from Israel, and what she wanted to see during her visit was not the MoMA or the Statue of Liberty, but Shania Twain's hometown in Northern Ontario...."I am very happy to have traveled from Israel to see the Shania Twain Centre," it reads. "I hope to meet Shania one day and tell her what an inspiration she has been to me."

The Shania Twain Centre, which opened on June 30, 2001, may not yet be a Graceland-like mecca for fans. Not yet. Timmins is a little further off the beaten track than Memphis, Tenn. Also, Twain isn't dead yet, a fact that adds considerable allure to the King's domain. But from what the people of Timmins tell me, Twain's fans are slowly combing a path of pilgrimage to their city of 43,686.

0303.30-STC Fan Convention update [STNAOFC]

Hi Everyone

Been out of the office all week, so was only able to get on today. Thought I better clear up the report in the Daily Press. It was definitely mis-quoted. What I said was that "Shania has indicated she would like to visit in 2003, but no definite date yet until concert tour schedule is set." This was not clear in the story. I don't want to be a downer, but I just want to make sure that no one gets the wrong impression. So, to be perfectly clear, we do NOT have confirmation of a visit in 2003, and we do NOT have an indication of direct participation by Shania in the fan convention. We ARE still working on a visit and Shania HAS said that she is planning on coming as soon as a date can be scheduled. ST and management reps have also confirmed that they realize that we would prefer a summer visit so that people could travel easier and so that we could use an outdoor venue since we don't have anything indoors big enough to accommodate everyone that might attend such an event.
On a positive note, plans for the convention are progressing well and we are still on schedule to have registration packages available by May 1st.

0303.26-Willie Nelson Birthday Bash [Live Daily]:

An all-star cast that includes Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow, Norah Jones and Shania Twain will be on hand at New York's Beacon Theater on April 9 to help Willie Nelson celebrate his 70th birthday Ray Charles, Kenny Chesney, Merle Haggard, Toby Keith, Kris Kristofferson, Jerry Lee Lewis, Lyle Lovett, John Mellencamp, Shelby Lynne, Ray Price, Leon Russell and ZZ Top are also scheduled to appear at the show.
According to promoters, tickets for the concert are scheduled to hit the market at 10 a.m. ET on Friday (3/28).
The event will be taped for a two-hour broadcast titled "Willie Nelson and Friends: Live and Kickin'," to premiere on the USA Network on Memorial Day (5/26) at 9 p.m. ET, with an encore presentation to immediately follow. The show will also be repeated on May 31 and June 1

0303.24-Shania's music is enjoyed by the crew:

On station in the Persian Gulf, the crew of the USS Abraham Lincoln, enjoys Shania's music between flight operations.....
There's the usual pizza and movies on Saturday night, the karaoke session in the mess, where Angela Jackson takes the mike to do a Shania Twain tune for a roomful of seamen.

0303.24-Shania picks designer for new video:

Shania has chosen New Zealand fashion designer Trelise Cooper to design the look for her new video, "Forever and For Always". The video is currently shooting in New Zealand this week. The single is set to debut April 7th.

Cooper's designs have also caught the eye of Shania Twain, who will shoot a music video in New Zealand this week. Last week Cooper's studio sent designs to her producers

CountryStars.com reported that Shania is filming her new video for her new single "Forever and For Always", which will be released April 7th. in New Zealand. New Zealand has been the location for principle photography for the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the TV show Xena. Given Shania's previous videos, fans should be in for a treat.

0303.21-The voyage home [Timmins Daily Press]:

The Timmins Daily Press reports.....Timmins Tourism and Attractions manager Will Saari revealed negotiations are ongoing with Twain’s managers for a date to visit her hometown before her concert tour begins in the fall.

“We’re having a tough time planning the convention until we know when she’s available,” Saari said. “She has said she’s coming for a visit in 2003.

“There has been no talk of her doing a concert, but we hope to have her here in time for the convention.”

The four-day event will have numerous events and tours for fans who want to see Twain’s home town.

“She has always spoken highly of her hometown and her fans are eager to see Timmins,” Saari said. “Her visit will likely be before her tour begins, which is rumored to begin in early fall.”

0303.18-Confident and playful on video, Shania Twain is another person altogether out of the spotlight. [SMH]:

...even though Twain is a pop and country music superstar (with exclamation marks to match!), the singer seems relatively understated in real life.
In conversation, Twain expresses the same everyday outlook as many of her female fans. She is career-minded but loves being a mum and wife. She also happened to sell 34million copies of her last album, Come On Over, which remains the highest-selling album for any female artist in the world.....Instead of retiring to a life of luxury in Switzerland, where she lives with husband Robert "Mutt" Lange (her co-writer and producer), Twain was determined to carry on from the phenomenal success of Come On Over. "It would be easier to say, 'Look, I've got enough and I don't want to put myself through this any more,"' she said, "but I love music. "The doors are still opening for me, and it would almost be irresponsible of me not to walk through those doors. You can't just take this for granted; I think that's a very spoilt way of looking at it. I certainly don't look at things that way." and on her son Eja.....Because of their own intense involvement in the industry, will Twain and Lange be tempted to push their own son towards a show biz career? "Personally, I think it's a very tough road," Twain said. "I think the chances are against anybody trying to get into the industry. "Supporting a child who doesn't have the passion on their own won't get them anywhere. I don't care how much support you put behind them, or how much money. If he's got the passion and the drive, then I will support him along the way, but I won't be the one driving it." Twain seemed slightly emotional when asked about her son's career choices - as if she was recollecting her own lifetime of hard work on stage. She paused before finishing her answer, then said: "I hope he does something else with his mind, actually, to be honest with you." SHANIA Twain, the superstar who brought bare midriffs to pop, says her fleshy fashion statement was accidental. "I never really thought about it much, and it never was deliberate," Twain, 37, said of the sexy look that pre-empted Britney, Christina and Holly.
"It was more like: 'OK, I've got a flat stomach,' and that was the easiest thing to find clothes for. It's really as simple as that. "I don't have long beautiful legs, so that's not something I would want to draw attention to. "Everyone has something they are comfortable with, and at that time, it was my flat stomach.......Twain is in Melbourne with husband, noted record producer Robert Mutt Lange, and their 19-month-old son, Eja, promoting her latest album, Up. Alluding to the new batch of near-naked pop princesses, Twain says music and marketed sexuality need to be balanced. "It's not about stripping down and not caring at all, because I think there is a certain amount of fun in having pride about yourself," she said. "It's when it gets overwhelming, and stressful, and not fun any more, you start to think that it's not really worth it." Twain enjoys walking the tightrope of sex symbol and unassuming homebody. "I enjoy the level of dressing up that I go through, but never to the point where I'm uncomfortable or compromising something," she said.

Shania is currently in Australia promoting her new album Up!. Shania appeared on several shows: ROVE, Today Show, and was interviewed by Kerrie Anne. Shania talked about taking her son Eja to the Toronga Park Zoo. Shania said Eja thought the Kangaroos were rabbits. Kerrie gave Shania a stuffed Koala Bear to give to Eja. 0303.05-Shania on Canadian Walk of Fame [Globe]:

Organizer Peter Soumalias said all 11 inductees had agreed to attend the event — a sign that the five-year-old Canada Walk of Fame has caught on. He also defended presenting the honor to Twain, who was raised in Timmins, Ont., but now lives in Switzerland. One of the qualifications for the award — along with being born in Canada or spending formative or creative years here — is that candidates must have a minimum of 10 years of success. Soumalias defended Twain from suggestions she has not been around for the required decade, saying her first album was released exactly 10 years ago. "She has sold more records than any other female in the history of recorded music," he said. With the 11 new additions, there will be 75 Canadian names on the walk, which is in downtown Toronto. Shania will be at the ceremony on June 25th.
