gets her butt slapped, and an apology:
At
Shania's Omaha concert on the 25th, After singing
"The Woman in Me" from a seat in the lower deck, Twain gently chastised
several people for smacking her "in places they shouldn't" on her way back
to the stage. A short time later, she asked for volunteers who knew the
words to sing the romantic ballad "You're Still the One" with her on
stage. The chosen volunteer was not well-versed on the lyrics. Through it
all, the pop-country superstar remained gracious. She even invited one of
the quick-handed perpetrators - who admitted his action and apologized -
on stage. To read the review click
here. Thanks to Tiger23, on the
STNAOFC boards,
we have an eyewitness account.....Now as far the
butt-slapping fiasco goes a couple of things. First I can’t believe
something like this happened in Omaha, Nebraska, of all places. Having
lived in the upper Midwest my entire life, I can vouch for the fact we are
traditionally very conservative, reserved and polite. This chump was an
exception, so please don’t think we are all a bunch of rude, perverted
rednecks. The crowd was just as appalled as Shania. Second, my hats off to
Shania as she took a negative situation and handled it in a very firm, yet
gracious way. Here’s a brief rundown of what happened from memory After
TDIMM, Shania pauses and has kind of a strange look on her face. She says
something to the effect of, “Thank you, you guys are very friendly, in
fact some of you are a little too friendly. I’ve never had this happen
before, but on my way back to the stage two people touched me in places
they shouldn’t have. And I DID NOT dig it.” Right on cue Andy or Cory says
“Hey, if you want to touch her ask.” Everyone busts out laughing and
Shania giggling turns around and salutes whoever said it and quips "Good
One!" (Kudos to Cory or Andy, that was classic.) (Shania spins
around with a determined look on her face and points to a security guard
next to one of the monitor consoles) “And you saw one of them didn’t you,
(he nods) please go out and fetch that person. I want to have a little
chat with him.” So she starts introducing YSTO and prepping the crowd to
find someone to sing it. Security marches a tall young guy probably in his
20s up to stage and crowd is kind of murmuring and some people are booing.
She brings the guy up on stage and he is absolutely beet red. Shania asks
him his name and then slaps him pretty good upside the shoulder and says
“What the heck were you thinking?” He says “That was an accident.” Shania
responds with something like un-huh or yeah right and then says “For an
accident you got me pretty good, we talking full contact here. Well can I
get an apology?” He says emphatically “I am sooo sorry.” She says
something like well you should be and while you’re up here you’re going to
sing for us. She then asks him if he knows the words to any of her songs
and if he has a favorite song and he says You’ve Got A Way. So Shania
sings a little of it and then swings the mic his way and he sheepishly
stands there. She asks “Do you know the words or are you shy.” He responds
“I’m a little shy.” Shania spins around to the audience and parrots “Oh I
am a little shy…thwack (makes a swatting jesture.) OK..well, your shyness
is still stinging my back side.” Once again the crowd roars and he turns
another shade of red. Then she shot the breeze with him briefly about how
he was wearing a nice dress shirt similar to one that she had just bought
for Mutt that had wildlife stuff on the buttons. Then she says “Well you
were a pretty good sport to come up here and you did apologize so I
suppose we can let you go.”

0405.25-Shania,
video editor [Net
Music]:
From
the beginning of her career Shania Twain has had creative control of her
videos, a power that helped save her career early on, and helped take it
through the roof later on. Shania says she still remains close to, or at
the helm of her video productions. "I think the best thing about making
videos is the whole creative process. I like being part of the direction
of the whole video, I edit my own videos, so I enjoy all of that part the
most to be honest with you. I don’t necessarily enjoy being in the video
so much. It’s a tough thing to do, if you’re just a live performer it’s
really tough to do the same thing over and over and over and over again.
So that’s probably my least favorite part, just the whole repetitive part
of it."
0405.23-Shania's
next album????? [Randall
Waller]:
Randall Waller has mentioned that the next project Shania will be working
on is a "Greatest Hits" CD. ".....I know they
(Shania & Mutt) are going to do a greatest hits record soon, - as far as I
know there are no plans to tour after that is done - but as we all know,
these things can change very quickly. " Keep in mind there has been
no official announcement of this album at this time.
0405.22-Mutt:
By Randall Waller [Randall
Waller]:
On Randall's board, he was asked a question about
Mutt. This was his reply: yes it's true Mutt does only ever work
with the best - I slipped in the back door one day and have hung around
like a bad smell ever since despite effort's to fumigate - as it
were...... truly though - he's an extraordinary person. Has definitely
influenced my life in all positive ways.
The thing he said the spoke most strongly to me was about compromise.
He said why would you not make the very best record that you could - I
said something along the lines of " well, not all budgets are open-ended"
- but he said that he realised that and that within those constraints one
should push hard to make THE best record possible within the given
parameters - he went on to say there are no prizes for the producers that
bring in the most records on time - or under budget - prizes are for the
BEST - only the best. I guess he's saying that in the end no one will
remember the producer who is the most efficient, of prompt, or economical
- what will be remembered are timeless, hit songs - and he's been a part
of more of these than maybe all the rest of the record producers in the
world put together if you look at sheer numbers. Having said all that -
he's a complete gentleman, very well-rounded, very well read, funny and
fun. It has been a true privilege.

Delilah Shania interview [Delilah]:
Delilah
caught up with the very busy Shania Twain a while ago and interviewed her
about her latest album, "Up!" Shania is part of an elite list of
performers who are also mothers; Delilah asked Shania how motherhood has
affected her professional life and how her songs have changed with her new
perspective as a mother. Shania hits the road this fall with a tour in
support of "Up!" and is currently in the production phase of the tour. She
will also be featured in a health and beauty issue of a famous women's
magazine - listen to the interview for more details!
0405.18-Tracy
talks about Fan Con 2 [Globe
and Mail]:
TIMMINS,
ONT. -- 'I voted right away," says Tracy Hautanen, on her way to a quick
smile. "It's my job." Her job is Shania Twain. Hautanen is the
manager of what is surely the most American attraction in all of Canada:
the Shania Twain Centre. The centre, $5.5-million worth of curving
concrete, display cases and a video theatre, sits in the southeast corner
of a gold-mining town that used to bill itself as "Canada's largest
municipality" (covering more than 320,000 hectares of Northern Ontario)
but now thinks of itself as the hometown of the biggest-selling female
solo recording artist in the world.....No matter that Shania Twain was
actually born Eileen Edwards in Windsor, Ont., nearly 39 years ago. She
calls Timmins home, and this is where her country-singing career began.
There is also a great deal of Canada, even though Twain has long since
been a Nashville star and lives in a 46-room chateau in Switzerland. In a
back room of the centre, Hautanen is preparing a brand-new exhibit to
feature sports: Twain's Ottawa Senators gown worn for a concert in Ottawa,
the nearly kinky Maple Leafs outfit she wore in Toronto, a football from
the Grey Cup. "I'm a Canadian through and through," says a blown-up quote
in one display. "And I'm very proud of that." So, too, is Tracy Hautanen,
and the "vote" she was talking about was cast for Twain to be named one of
the finalists for the CBC's "The Greatest Canadian" contest, which came to
a close yesterday.

Auction for charity
Arguably
the most popular female Country superstar in the world, the lovely and
talented Shania Twain has donated an autographed Epiphone acoustic guitar
to this year's "Country
for the Cause" auction. This is as good as it gets as far as
memorabilia go. The final bid was $910.
0405.18-Shania
wins 2 BMI Awards:
Shania took home two BMI Pop Awards for "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!", and
"Forever and For Always". "BMI's Citation of Achievement performance
certificates are given annually in recognition of popularity in the field
of popular music, as measured by feature broadcast performances on
American radio and television."
0405.11-Shania
owned the house [London
Press]:
Nobody
rules centre ice at the John Labatt Centre like Shania Twain. Using an
"in-the-round" format to get up close and personal last night, the
Canadian superstar jumped, strutted and ran all over the centre-ice stage.
She was surrounded by a centre single-night record crowd of 10,269 Twain
superfans. Many of the lucky ones were able to reach up to the stage and
have the star bend or kneel for one of the countless autographs or
high-fives she handed out. Twain is back at the centre for another
sold-out show tonight. Among the many fans who held up signs, Twain seemed
to get the biggest kick from a woman whose sign said yesterday was her due
date. "I went to an AC/DC concert when I was about seven months pregnant,"
Twain smiled, wishing the mother-to-be well. "This is the baby's first
Shania concert."
0405.08-Shania-"family
comes first" [Country Weekly]:
Be
sure to pick up the latest issue of Country Weekly. Shania says her family
will always come first. The pop-country queen reigns
supreme, yet she's able to keep much of her life private. That's because
she makes her home in Switzerland, with her husband-producer "Mutt" Lange
and their son, Eja, who turns three in August. Far away from photographers
and celebrity-seekers, Shania is free to step into the roles of wife and
mother without distractions. "I'm always in a family mode," she says
sweetly. "I love just being at home and spending time with my son." And
Shania makes sure that it's quality time. "It's tiring, but I make little
rules, you know," she explains. "I like to be home every night for bath
and bed time, and we always spend our mornings together. We manage to
spend more time together than most mums who work eight-to-five get to."
Even on the road, Shania is determined to be a hands-on mom. Eja often
travels with Shania and seems to adjust to road life, with mother's help.
"We get to establish a routine," she says. "I don't bring him to the venue
too often, because he's usually off doing other things, like swimming or
ice skating. But I put him to bed every night. He's been dealing with this
life from the time he was born, so this is really second nature to him.
He's a good little boy, not a hyper kid at all." That's a case of the
apple not falling far from the tree. "I was always the kind of kid who was
happy playing by myself," admits Shania with a laugh. "He's very much like
that."
0405.08-Back
to back sold out shows [London
Press]:
About 10,200 Twain tickets sold out for each of the
London shows. In minutes. "For a single show, this would be our highest
capacity (about 10,260)," says centre general manager Brian Ohl. "We'll be
over $1 million Canadian (each night). They're single-night records for
us."
0405.08-VOTE

VOTE!!!! Let's make sure Shania is at the top of the list when the
show airs June 19th!!!!

gets an A+ for interaction [The
State]:
In review of Shania's performance at the Colonial Center, Shania was given
an A+ for her interaction with the fans.
Twain: She probably touched 500 fans, and these
people were allowed to leave their seats and rush the stage. You should’ve
seen the contorted faces of happiness after fans touched Shania. She even
sang a song while sitting in the crowd — extra credit! Twain earned
an A++, but the annoying way she kept pronouncing Columbia, the last
syllable over-enunciated, knocks it down to A+.
0405.08-Brent
Barcus Update [xboard]:
Brent's last concert with Shania was at Charlotte, NC. Although no
official statement has been released, the following was posted on
Randall's site:
Not sure if you've heard but Brent has left the band
- had his last show a few nights ago and so this has thrown a bit more
responsibility my way, and Cory's way - we were so sorry to see him go but
he felt he needed to move on.

Waller's site is now open [xboard]:
Check out the NEW message board on Randall Waller's website. You can even
post questions, that he may answer, under the "Ask Randall" forum.
0405.04-Gordon
Lightfoot likes Shania [Ottawa]:
Singer / Songwriter Gordon Lightfoot points to
Shania Twain as a really good songwriter, a talent not usually considered
her main show business attribute. "If she couldn't write those songs, man,
there'd be nothing happening!"
0405.03-Brent
Barcus has left the band [JD Blair]:
It
was announced on JD Blair's web site that Brent Barcus has left Shania's
band for a "higher calling" Here is the original message from JD's site:

fans camp out for tickets [KCBD]:
Chilly temperatures didn't stop Shania Twain fans.
Hundreds of people of all ages stood in line Saturday morning to buy
tickets for her June 26th concert. 400 floor seats at the United Spirit
Arena sold out within the first hour of ticket sales, and even though cold
weather may have affected the length of ticket lines, it didn't discourage
those true Shania fans.
