0311.29-Brent
Barcus, on touring [St.
Louis Post]:
Brent
Barcus, Shania's lead guitarist had a homecoming of sorts when Shania's
tour stopped to play at the Saavis Center. Brent talked about how he
got introduced, and wound up touring with Shania:
"My audition was actually on Jay Leno," he says.
"Shania saw some live concert footage of me and asked me to come to
California and rehearse for one night and then do Leno. It was kind of a
trial by fire. They wanted to see how I looked on TV and responded to her.
I kept getting called back to do TV shows with her, and somewhere around
January of '98, she asked me to be in her touring band."
What is
it like being part of a major tour, like Shania's?
Though Barcus had played arenas with DC Talk, he
said working for Twain has been an education in itself. "I was like, 'Wow,
this is big' - just to be working under these people and to see how they
put all this together for this size tour. It was exciting. Mutt rehearsed
us for four months, which is something I'd never done. I'd done tours
where we rehearsed and did the whole tour in that amount of time. It was
grueling."
What was
Brent and his wife Miley doing between Shania's tours?
Barcus and his wife, Miley, have put a band together
and are planning a CD/DVD release next March. "We're doing a rock 'n' roll
duo called Miley and B.B.," Barcus says. "It's kind of a new version of
Ike and Tina, minus the domestic violence." Barcus has his own
studio in LA, where he moved after his first tour with Twain, but much of
his own CD was recorded during downtime on the road. "We've been writing
for a year and recording in hotel rooms," he says. "I've got two more
songs to finish up.
Brent
also had one last funny comment about touring with Shania:
One good thing about having a wife who is also in
the business - she doesn't give him flak about having a job that requires
him to look at the backside of Shania Twain every night. "She's been
through all that," Barcus says of his wife. "She's very confident, and we
have a solid relationship. She's a strong woman."
Be sure
to check out Brent's website. He has been keeping Shania fans up to date
on the Up! tour. So check out his music, and his Tour Journals on his
website.

0311.29-Up!
for another tour [St.
Louis Post]:
For the "Up!" tour, Twain is making sure to feature
lots of songs from the current album in addition to hitting the highlights
of her previous efforts. "We're doing a medley so she can fit a lot of
stuff in that people want to hear," says Brent Barcus, Twain's guitarist
and a St. Louis-area native. It's a two-hour show, so you get the new
singles and you get the old hits. It's a well-done production. It's in the
round, which is a new experience for us. It's fun."
0311.29-Shania,
"the girl next door"' [Canoe]:
....But
despite that level of superstardom, the people closest to Twain say she
remains a nice, down-to-earth Canadian gal. "Talking to Shania is just as
easy as talking to you," says Ron Sakamoto, president of Gold and Gold
Productions, which has promoted all her Canadian concerts, including her
stop at the Saddledome Thursday. "It's just like she's your next door
neighbour." Sakamoto, a 11-time Canadian Country Music Association
promoter of the year, who is based in Lethbridge, tours the country with
Twain. "She's as nice today as she was the first time I met her in 1993.
"Nothing has gone to her head. And the only thing that has changed is that
Shania now has to be a little more careful in the public because there are
some not nice people out there." Ron
also talks about Shania spending hours teaching Eja to his tricycle, and
taking him to sound checks. To read more, click the link in the title of
this story. As to Shania's show, he
says : "Boy, people are going to
see a great show. She makes sure she gives 150%. "She plays, and plays,
and plays. In that little body she has dynamite energy," he says of the
show, which often goes past the two hour mark.
0311.28-Twain
thrives in shrinking market[DenverPost]:
A
lot of people have been writing that Up! is a failure, always comparing it
to the total Come On Over has sold over the last 6 years. In previous
interviews, Shania has mentioned that Up! is ahead of the other albums at
the same point in their release cycle. Well, it should be raining more
platinum for Shania. The Denver Post reports Shania's first album "Shania
Twain", is double platinum, "The Woman in Me" is at 12 times platinum, and
"Come On Over: is rapidly approaching the 20 million mark, which will give
Shania her second Diamond Award for that album. According to Mercury, Up!
is reaching the 10 million mark. Rick Taylor from Country Weekly,
says of Up!:" it is a highly successful album when
you consider the times, and you have got to consider the times."
Rick continues, "She is
not having the kind of radio success she had with 'Come on Over.' But does
she still have a built-in audience that is going to buy her records like
hotcakes? You bet. But it is tougher all the way around." "Up!" sold a
record-setting 874,000 copies its first week out. To date it has racked up
sales of more than 10 million, according to label figures. "Her fans can't
get enough of her,"
0311.28-Shania
over the top! [Riverfront
Times]:
Popular
music is supposed to be outsized, gigantic, awesome, exciting and, yes,
larger than life. It exists to take us away from our everyday world and
create a fantasy realm where everybody dances more, loves harder, has more
sex and, on bad days, feels more pain than we do. Perhaps no single pop
performer working today has a better appreciation for the over-the-top
function of pop music than Shania Twain does.

Supports Centre [True North News]:
Well, Shania
has sent the
Shania Twain Centre in Timmins some more of her stuff.
The Shania Twain Centre has recently received four
more of Shania's dresses. "Shania is extremely supportive of the Centre,
so much so, she sends us the outfits before the shows she's wearing them
for are aired on television," said Tracy Hautanen, Customer Service
Manager. Most of Shania's dresses and performance outfits are
designed by Marc Bower such as the black leather one piece pant-suit
Shania performed in during the NBC special: Up Close and Personal. It
aired on November 25, 2003. If you get a chance to get up close and
personal to Shania's clothing at the Centre, you get an idea of just how
petite this big performer really is. The designer clothes obviously aren't
marked with Shania's size, but the white, printed, beaded dress she wore
for the CMA awards is a size 2. "We can't display her outfits on regular
manequins," says Hautanen. "We use special molds which are currently used
to display the other exhibits; it's a big process to change exhibits."
Hautanen emphasizes that without contributions from Shania "we wouldn't
have a centre; she's totally giving to the Centre and we couldn't ask for
more from her." Click on the link above to read the rest of

0311.27-"Shania"
going to Baghdad? [SiFy
News]:
Well,.
President Bush made a surprise Thanksgiving Day visit to the troops in
Baghdad. The commanding General was asked how he kept the planning of the
visit a secret, he replied....Troops gathered at the
airport were told their dinner would be with the top US administrator in
Iraq, Paul Bremer, and Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez, the head of
US-led coalition forces in the country. When organizing for a surprise
visitor Sanchez said he had told some people that country singer Shania
Twain would be coming. Bush, who shed tears after addressing the
troops had been "beyond belief."
0311.27-Shania
rocked Oklahoma
The concert was a perfectly blended mix of the
multi- award winning Shania's old and new songs. Shania took the stage at
7:50 p.m. dressed in black slacks and a University of Oklahoma football
jersey. Most of the crowd loved it, and she began her show with a female
singalong, "Man! I Feel Like a Woman" from "Come on Over," quickly
followed by the title song of her current album, "Up!" Friendly with
the audience, she sang hits like "Honey I'm Home," "C'est La Vie,"
"Forever and for Always" and "She's Not Just Another Pretty Face."

0311.26-Special
not so special ratings [Country
Nation]:
Well,
NBC messed up this one. Due to a last minute date change for Shania's
Special, and no time for TV Schedules to get updated with correct
information, Shania placed fourth in her time slot. About 9 million people
tuned in. For fans that managed to tune in, it was a very special night.

proper advertising.
0311.26-Up!
Close and Personal!!!!
Well,
after watching Shania's latest special, all I can say is WOW!!! This is my
favorite Shania special ever!!!! Shania performed 8 songs. 4 songs
were not shown on the special, but will probably wind up on a future DVD
[I hope]. The 8 songs were: [Order was different on the special]
The songs in red
were on the show!!!
1. "Ain't No Particular Way"
2. "She's Not Just a Pretty Face"
3. "In My Car (I'll Be the Driver)"
4. "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under"
5. "From This Moment On"
6. "Up!"
7. "I'm Holdin' On to Love (to Save My Life)"
8. "Forever and For Always"
9. "I'm Gonna Getcha Good"
10. "You're Still the One"
11. "I Ain't Goin' Down"
12. "You Shook Me All Night Long"
Shania told
stories between songs, such as going to work with her mom, who had one job
pumping gas. Shania would sit in the booth doing her homework. Shania also
took a swipe at her critics!!! "At one point or another, all my songs have
been criticized. One critic said "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under" was
a great title in search of a song. Shania said it is one of the most
popular songs in her live show. Speaking of her older songs, Shania said
it is like visiting old friends, when she performs them. Also, one last
tidbit, "Ain't No Particular Way" was written BEFORE, her "The Woman In
Me" songs.
If you
really liked the special like I did, let NBC know!!!! You can email them

0311.24-"Up!
Close and Rootsy" [USA
Today]:
Shania
and Alison Krauss recently talked about Shania's latest
NBC Special : Up! Close and Personal, which airs on November 25th, at 9pm.
This unlikely pair performed together on the CMT Flameworthy Awards, and
on Shania's version of "Coat of Many Colors".
Why did
Shania pick Alison?
"I wanted to go back to something stripped-down and
rootsy," Twain says. "I've been doing big concerts for quite a long time,
and I love it, but I just want that contrast." To get it, she turned
again to Union Station. "Wanting to break the music down, there just
didn't seem to be any other way," she says. "They were the ones. There is
no, even, second choice."
Why did Shania choose such a different setting for this special?
"It's fun and refreshing to make this departure,"
Twain says. "It's all worked really naturally and very, very well."
What was is like for Alison to get ready for this special?
"When we were learning the tunes for the show, they
were so easy to remember," Krauss says. "A catchy melody, a catchy tune —
that works in any style. It was amazing how they stuck with us and how
they worked."...Krauss says she was nervous at first, because Twain's
music seemed so unlike the bluegrass and acoustic music she and her band
usually play. "It's so different from what we do, we didn't know what
liberties we were supposed to take," Krauss says. "Were we supposed to
learn it off the record? Were we supposed to learn the themes? Twain's
husband, Robert John 'Mutt' Lange, was like, 'Just play them as if you
were going to play them.' "
So, what was it like for Alison to meet one of her idols, "Mutt" Lange?
Krauss is a noted fan of the arena-rock bands such
as Foreigner, Def Leppard and AC/DC that Lange produced in the '80s.
"Working with Mutt has to be one of the top musical experiences of my
entire life," she says. "My brother, he's calling and getting an update.
Then my brother's friend is calling. All these people were calling me,
going, 'What's he like?' Because we've all been huge fans of his forever."
Shania performs the AC/DC song "You Shook Me All Night Long". Did she
keep the raunchy lyrics?
Up! Close includes Twain and Krauss' version of You
Shook Me All Night Long, a record Lange produced for AC/DC. But those
hoping Twain gets down and dirty with the song will have to wait. "I
changed the words," Twain says. "I never liked singing them, even when I
was 15. I sat down on the bus and put new words to it." No collaboration
is ever completely without a little creative tension. Krauss would have
kept the original lyrics: "I do like the nasty words in there. Yeah."

0311.23-Superstar
in the Lone Star State [MySa]:
Over
the weekend the Up! Tour was in Texas. Here is part of a review from her
San Antonio show:
Her latest album is "Up!" and that's how her fans
reacted when her worldwide tour stopped at the SBC Center on Saturday
night. They leapt to their feet — with most staying on them for the whole
115-minute show — even before the curtain quivered. They went wild when
she jogged on stage wearing black windbreaker pants, basketball shoes and
a white Spurs jersey with Tim Duncan's No. 21 appearing and disappearing
beneath her flowing brown hair. Drummer J.D. Blair of Houston, meanwhile,
sported David
Robinson's retired No. 50. Just five hits into the show, Twain paused to
address the cheering throng: "I think we're in for an amazing night here
because San Antonio is rocking. You're loud. We want to leave here
deaf!"....Plus, her upbeat presentation proved she is no pop tart. While
other singers go for the pierced-navel look and wearing hardly anything
but goose bumps, Twain came off like the nice girl next door. She kept it
clean, giving a wholesome collection of songs about love and empowerment,
all the while taking bouncy steps that lacked the highfalutin choreography
of a Britney Spears. Band members sometimes followed Twain, strutting and
playing like musicians at a free-form tent revival.

0311.20-Emerson
Drive to open Up! [Country
Weekly]:
Shania Twain must have approved of the opening act
on her Canadian tour, fellow Canadians Emerson Drive - she's asked them to
continue on with her for the tour's American leg throughout late fall and
early winter 2003. "We have been having such a fantastic time on the road
with Shania that when we received the news that we picked up more shows
touring with her in the United States, we were thrilled!" shares lead
vocalist Brad Mates. "This tour was a huge dream for us and it doesn't get
better than this."
0311.20-"I
know where these kids come from" [InStyle]:
Shania
appears in the December Issue of InStyle.
SECOND HARVEST'S KIDS CAFE
When I was growing up, there were lots of times my family didn't have
food. None of my friends knew we weren't eating. Children get humiliated,
so at school I'd tell people I forgot my lunch or say "I'm not hungry." I
did a good job of pretending. A friend would steal food from her house and
bring it to ours. Every once in a while she'd get caught. She probably
doesn't realize even today what it meant to us. Hunger is an overlooked
problem. Many people don't understand how hard it is for children to
concentrate in school when they haven't eaten properly. Second Harvest's
Kids Cafe program prepares balanced meals, and it's a place where kids can
do other things, like play basketball or get help with homework. I love
working with the program because I know where these kids are coming from.
To donate to Second Harvest, check out their site. There is a HUGE picture
of Shania in the issue, as pictured above. As soon as I get the issue, I
will have a scan available of it on my site. The picture is a full page!!
0311.20-"I'm
more than just a country singer" [MySA]:
Shania Twain
doesn't like to be put into a category. She loves the ability to move
between musical styles. It is that freedom that her fans really love.
Perhaps that's the secret to Twain's success. The
Canadian songstress, whose concert tour stops in the SBC Center on
Saturday, has established a style and an identity that transcend musical
boundaries. As she puts it, "I would say that I am a country singer, but
I'm not JUST a country singer." Why do you have to come up with ANY
terms?" she says. "Categories kind of bother me. The only reason for
categorizing, in my opinion, is so people will know where to look for you
in a record store." Twain insists that when she embarked on her recording
career in the mid-'90s, she didn't set out to be all things to all people.
But she clearly enjoys the fact that her music reaches so many different
types. She says she's most aware of her diverse fan base when performing.
"It's amazing to watch the audience," she says. "It's so entertaining for
me. Because you'll see a group of, like, five or six 20-year-old guys and
then you'll see a group of a few 16-year-old girls and then in amongst
that you'll see (a) couple in their 60s and then you'll see parents with
their two kids, 8 and 10 years old. "It's so mixed, and it's the same
everywhere I go. There's no one type, no one demographic that makes up the
audience for me. I mean, how many social events can you do that include
ages from 3 to 83? Not many."
When asked about her popularity, and why she is so widely accepted,
she says....."I have no idea," she admits. "I don't
think any of these things are a science. I get that question a lot, as far
as record sales and concerts: 'Why do you think it does what it does?' And
I just never have an answer."
0311.20-"How
do you like her now!" [MySA]:
Shania is no
stranger to San Antonio. She first performed there in the early 90's as
part of the Triple Play Tour. "John didn't want to
close," Keith said. "Shania was in the middle and I was in back. She
started having voice problems from not being used to singing that much.
"I'd been working six nights a week in bars and that just made me shine
like a new nickel." Three years later, Twain returned as an emerging
star, singing the Canadian national anthem while Tejano star Emilio
Navaira sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" before the NBA All-Star Game at
the Alamodome. But the next time Twain visited the Alamo City, she was a
superstar, with sales of her debut album topping 12 million. She headlined
the Alamodome in November 1998 before about 12,000 fans with her hits
"Man, I Feel Like a Woman," "Honey, I'm Home" "Whose Bed Have Your Boots
Been Under?" and "Still the One." Shania returns to San Antonio on
November 22nd for her current tour.

Interview

Shania
talked about her upcoming NBC Special, "Shania: Up! Close and Personal".
Shania said the special will showcase another side of her .
Which would that be? The one before she became a superstar.
"It will still be a party, but a house party. Very intimate. There are no
electric instruments on the stage, only wood and string.", says Shania.
They also asked Shania if she prefers Arenas or smaller more intimate
venues? Shania says she has no preference. "I'm a four-seasons girl; I
like change." So, what did her backup partner Alison Krauss have to say
about working with Shania? At first Alison said she was pretty intimidated
when Shania sent her the CDs so she could learn the songs. "What am I
gonna do?" was Alison's' first thought. . "But she writes such
catchy songs and wonderful melodies...and a good song can work in any
format. It worked out fine, and we had a good time."
0311.19-More
Movie News [Canada.com]:
Everyday more
and more information is coming out about the CBC Project "Shania". It
seems that they have answered some fans concerns about the movie.
We know Shania Twain as the golden girl of country
music but in her younger years she was the Coal Miner's Daughter. Or that
is the gist of a biopic of Twain's early life that is in development for a
two-hour movie the CBC hopes to air in the spring. The TV movie portrays a
girl from Timmins, Ont., who brings up her family and dreams of a career
in music. It ends at the point where Twain's subsequent fame and success
are eminent. As such, it is an inspirational film about overcoming
adversity. Before she became country's biggest-selling act, Twain
confronted plenty..."We're going into it with as much information as
possible," says Myro Fal, an assistant to executive producer Laszlo Barna.
"According to what I'm hearing, the information is accurate. We don't want
to do anything negative. We want to portray a person who overcame the
odds."....The company is working from Eggars' book, of which Twain has
given her approval. She hasn't pressed for changes or revisions that would
shine up the intended grit.
0311.19-Eja
sings with mom
Shania
has no problem talking about Eja though, who's a vegetarian like his folks
and is learning French and English. His favorite Shania song is "Nah!" "He
can sing along with that one", Shania says. "Yesterday, he sang [ABBA's]
'Mama Mia', "It's so cute. 'Cause I sing that to him sometimes. So
he just learned his first pop song." So, who is Eja more like, mom
or dad? "It's hard to tell because he's not a hyper kid, and Mutt
and I are both not really excitable people. I was always the kind of kid
who was happy playing by myself, and he's very much like that"

0311.18-Mrs.
Mutt on Mr. Mutt:
When
told her husband is a tall drink of water, Shania genuinely smiles for the
first time. "We are a lot alike," she says. "I mean, we have a lot of
opposite qualities. That's what makes us a good team, because we enhance
each other and we feed off each other. But we are so similar in our
character". Both of them are incredibly talented, yet a tad antisocial.
However. we spotted Mutt- who calls Shania "Woody"......wandering
backstage, shaking hands politely with a fan and having an enthusiastic
conversation with one of Shania's guitarists. Doesn't seem "strange" to
us.
"He doesn't want any more privacy than your average person", Shania says
"He's just not into fame, that's all. So people misconstrue that and think
he is a hermit or something. He's very chatty. He talks to everyone. He's
got a very young and honest sense of humor. He's a very generous, sweet
person. A loving person. He's much more social than I am."

0311.18-Shania,
working mom [CountryStars]:
Shania
Twain says her son, Eja, is a good little boy even when he travels with
his mom when she works. But on the road or at home Twain says being a
working mother is just plain tiring. "It's tiring. But I make little
rules, you know. I like to be home every night for bath and bed time and
we spend our mornings together. Or I'll make sure there's a time in the
middle of the day if I can't be there in the evenings, that I get to go
visit him and we have lunch together. And you know, we always manage to, I
think, spend more time together than a lot of mums get to that work 8 to
5. So I find it's pretty manageable. It isn't that different from any
working mum, it's just my schedule needs to be juggled a little bit more.
And so I have an advantage there, but then of course I've got the extra
stuff of traveling and moving us around and packing and unpacking and all
that. But I think every working mom has it hard; its tiring no matter how
you look at it."
0311.18-Shania
the movie continued...[CJAD]:
Here is some
more information on the new CBC "Shania" project. Shania's life will be
the focus of a two hour movie of the week. The movie will focus on
Shania's inspirational journey from poor kid, to one of the world
leading musical superstars. The project has no cast at this time. The
movie will be based on Robin Eggar's Shania Twain : The Biography.
"This is not a story about
show business," says executive producer Laszlo Barna. "It's about having
the determination - and the guts - to live your dreams."

Live In Chicago will be streamed on December 18th.
0311.17-Lights,
Camera, Action [CBC]:
From the CBC
Press release......
The
CBC announced plans today to make a movie based on the life of singer
Shania Twain. Called Shania, the movie of the week will air
next season. It will chronicle her rise from small-town obscurity to
superstar status. It will be based on Robin Eggar's Twain biography
and will be executive produced by Laszlo Barna, whose credits include
DaVinci's Inquest and The David Milgaard Story. "Because of the formidable
odds against her and the obstacles she had to overcome, Shania's story is
an inspiration to young people everywhere, in Canada and around the
world," says CBC-TV executive director of network programming Slawko
Klymkiw.
0311.16-Shania
goes empty handed:
Well
, Shania once again goes empty handed at another American award show. This
time it was at the American Music Awards. The show featured
some mysterious winners. During the show, it was stated over and over how
the awards were based on sales. Well, Shania has outsold, and out toured
the winner of the Country Female Award: Faith Hill. Shania even lost the
International Award to Madonna, whose last two albums were considered
disasters. Country Album went to Toby Keith, yet another artist who Shania
has outsold. It appeared that if you showed up on the show, you got a
trophy.

but will now air later this year, outside the sweeps frame. Replacing
Justin: music spec "Shania Twain Up! Close and Personal." Twain's
hour had been set to air Nov. 26, instead of "The West Wing." With Twain
gone, "West Wing" will be back, right? Well, no: NBC is filling the 9 p.m.
hour with an extra seg of "Law & Order," which repeats much better than
"West Wing."

Close and Personal [NBC]:
NBC has

they
are!!!!! [Click picture for larger versions]

0311.11-Lifetime
Magazine
Shania
graces the cover of Lifetime Magazine's December 2003 / January 2004
issue.
0311.10-"a
side of this talent you didn't know about"
Jimmy Carter
from AllAccess.com got to hang out with Shania at the taping of her
new special. Here is what he had to say:
Shania Twain let me hang out at her rehearsal for
that NBC special, and we talked for TV this week. She is better looking
than ever. Nicer, more comfortable … in short, fantastic. You wait until
you see this NBC special with Alison Krauss and Union Station as her back
up band. It will be a side of this talent you didn't know about. She is
more than just a pretty face and a belly button! I also got to see MUTT
!!!!!!!!! He does exist!!! Nice looking guy and seems very nice.
0311.09-Mcelebs
interview [STNAOFC]:
Check out
the recent Mcelebs interview of Shania Twain:
Eja is two now. What kind of a mother are you?
Shania Twain: I'm dotting, but that's probably normal with your first
child. I'm always worried he's gonna fall or go too fast on his bike. I
think I'm more stressed about that than I should be.
I hope to have scans soon. There are two good Shania pictures with this
interview.
0311.09-Waste
Not Want Not [KAJA]:
On
Oprah, Shania mentioned how she hates to waste food.
The "That Don't Impress Me Much" singer's poor
upbringing taught her never to waste anything - because there was a time
she had absolutely nothing. She explains, "In my dressing rooms I always
ask for what I can eat, and what I've started doing now is saying, 'Look I
only need two bananas, I only need four waters,' and I give numbers of how
much I need so I don't get a dozen bananas." Twain admits her frugal
ways continue when she's cooking at home: "My husband complains. He says,
`Why do you make just two potatoes?' and I say, `Because there's only two
of us.' He says, 'Just make four and then I have the choice of having more
or I can have the rest tomorrow.' "But I remember doing everything I could
just to prevent the Children's Aid from coming to take us away. Our
standard of living was that low we were in 40-below winters in Ontario and
you had no heat. "You were sleeping with your clothes on. I was 22 when
they moved in with me, but our poorest days were with my parents when we
were younger - when we had no grocery money and we were doing laundry in
the bathtub and going to the dump for clothes."
0311.08-Up!'s
first Number One Single [Yahoo]:
After
almost a year, Up! finally has a number one single!!!! "Forever and For
Always": has reached the number one spot on the AC Charts.
CONGRATULATIONS
SHANIA!!!!
0311.08-Shania
brings in the ratings [Variety]:
Boosting the ratings for "CMAs" were a special
tribute to the late Johnny Cash (a posthumous winner in several
categories) and a performance by Shania Twain -- both in the second half
of the kudocast. The 18-49 rating from 9:30 to 11 (6.5) was 10% higher
than last year's 5.9.
0311.08-She's
Not Just A Pretty Face
[Entertainment Weekly]:
Despite
zero nominations, Twain proves she's ''Not Just a Pretty Face'' Twain said
her new neo-feminist single isn't an attempt to force women's issues back
into country -- or tweak sensibilities -- at a time when, controversially,
male country artists are vastly outperforming women. ''I don't really pay
attention to the climate of all of that,'' she said backstage. ''Most of
my songs are from a female perspective anyway, so it wouldn't really
matter [which song was chosen].'' As for why she showed up, Twain -- who
lives in Switzerland and rarely visits Music City USA -- said it's mostly
good
for ''bumping into people I haven't seen since last year. And I love
sitting in the audience and watching the whole show. I make a good fan.''
Twain was even a good sport when Sheryl Crow grabbed her butt as they
bumped into each other on the red carpet -- the grab was returned on their
second encounter. ''She started it!'' Twain cheerfully insisted afterward.
0311.08-"Shania's
a class act!", says Toby
[CountryStars]:
At
the recent CMA Awards in Nashville, Toby Keith, who had 7 nominations came
up empty handed. Well, that is nothing new for Shania. After the award
ceremony, Shania sought out her old "Triple Play" tour mate for some chit
chat. Toby mentioned his encounter with Shania:
Toby told us that Shania Twain made a point to seek
him out for an extended conversation. "Here she is, completely ignored by
the CMA this year, and yet there she was singing on the show. Then she
seeks me out to talk. We talked about a lot of things, she asked about my
family, and things that are really important. She's just a class act,"
Toby said of the woman he feels shouldn't have been passed over by the
CMA.
0311.08-Shania
gets "hairy" [Tennessean]:
During the
taping of Shania's upcoming NBC Special Shania told some interesting
stories between songs. Here is one of them:
Shania mentioned this is a habit she got into
growing up in northern Canada. ''There are a lot of hairy girls in
winters,'' she said, offering images one might rather not have when
staring at the gorgeous goddess that is Shania Twain. ''That's the beauty
of winter. You wear long sleeves and pants and you become a gorilla.'' The
audience howled. Whether this fabulous repartee makes it into the final
show remains to be seen. Shania's special airs at 8 p.m. Nov. 26 on
Channel 4.
0311.06-Memphis
Cancelled [OFC]:
The Official
Fan Club had the following announcement about the cancellation of Shania's
Memphis show:
NBC
has scheduled a Shania Twain special on November 26th--the same date as
the Memphis concert. Due to the conflict with this event, the show at the
Pyramid in Memphis has been cancelled. The concert may be rescheduled at a
later date.
0311.05-Shania
on CMA 2003:
Shania gave
a great performance on the CMA Awards tonight despite having a severe
cold. Here are some pictures from the show:

Shania sang
her latest single "She's Not Just A Pretty Face". After her performance
Faith Hill could be seen in the audience mouthing "YOU GO GIRL". Seems the
"Nashville Outcasts" were sticking together.

0311.05-A
reluctant Superstar [EXTRA]:
In fact,
Twain tells "Extra" in a rare and candid interview that she is indeed a
reluctant superstar. She says, "If I sit around and think about it, I get
overwhelmed. If it weren't for my accountant, I wouldn't even know how
much money I've got in the bank." And the 37-year-old singer says it was
her need for privacy that prompted her husband, producer Robert Lange, and
their 2-year-old son, Eja, to flee the spotlight and live in rural
Switzerland. Twain says, "People are more interested in what the cows are
doing here."
On her upcoming special Shania hopes to share her country heart, Twain
says, "This is me sharing that side of me with them."
Shania on rumor control:
Twain says, "That I have a no-sex marriage. That is
not true."
But what does her husband say? Twain says, "We both kind of laughed at
that." And then there is the one about Twain and the family now moving
even farther away to New Zealand, a rumor that started when Twain made her
recent visit to the South Pacific Island. She says, "That's a very serious
rumor. But we’re not moving to New Zealand."
0311.05-Shania
cancels some dates [German
Fan Club]:
Shania has
cancelled all her upcoming European Promotion dates, due to illness. It
was reported at the filming of her latest TV Special that she was fighting
off a bad cold. With her recent demanding schedule Shania deserves
the rest. GET WELL SOON SHANIA!!!!
0311.04-Shania
and Dolly [Oprah]:
WOW!!! This
has to be one of the best Shania interviews in a long time. Seeing Shania
sing with her idol Dolly Parton was a real treat. Shania had her heart on
her sleeve. Shania talked about wishing her mom was there to see her sing
with Dolly. Shania said on "After The Show". that her parents would have
known how much this meant to her.
Shania
explained to Oprah that she grew up wanting to be Dolly Parton, adding, "I
wish my mother could be here today." She then teared up, along with about
everyone else.

0311.04-Shania
gets intimate
[Tennessean,
and
CountryStars]:
Shania got
up close and personal for her new NBC Special which she filmed on November
3rd. Shania Twain: Up! Close and Personal
is the title of her NBC Special that she taped in Nashville this week. The
special will feature Shania in a very intimate setting, with a crowd of
about 300, and with Alison Krauss and Union Station as her band and
backing vocals. She looked great, wearing a black, leather, long-sleeved
jumpsuit with a wide rhinestone belt and matching rhinestone, collar-like
choker. Shania must have been very comfortable in the intimate setting.
Between songs and when the cameras weren't rolling she talked about very
random and offbeat topics including women getting hairy like gorillas
during the winter when they don't shave, cellulite, burning a hole in a
leather purse with vodka, sucking and spitting snot and other tasty topics
The set list for this special, includes:
Ain't No Particular Way
She's Not Just a Pretty Face
In My Car (I'll be the Driver)

0311.04-Maple
Leaf to be demolished? [Timmins
Press]:
The hotel which Stompin’ Tom Connors and Shania
Twain both helped make famous. The Maple Leaf Hotel is in jeopardy of
being demolished.
Claimpost Realty Ltd. agent Gregory Reynolds, who is trying to sell the
building on behalf of the Business Development Bank of Canada, told The
Daily Press Monday afternoon the living piece of Timmins history could be
history by Christmas 2004 if a buyer isn’t found for the building before
winter hits
0311.04-Shania
goes down under [Country
Weekly]:
Shania Twain and husband Mutt Lange have their
sights set on New Zealand, land of kiwis, sheep and spectacular scenery
(the Lord Of The Rings mo vies were shot there). They've purchased a
200-acre farm near Lake Wakatipu, on New Zealand's South Island. Shania
filmed the video for "Forever And For Always" in New Zealand, and says the
breathtaking terrain of the area reminds her of the Canadian countryside
0311.03-Shania
made Dolly cry [Toronto
Sun]:
The
Toronto Sun reports that during the taping of the Oprah show, with Shania
and Dolly, that Shania made Dolly cry when she mentioned what an
inspiration Dolly was for her growing up.
Dolly says:
"Shania was so sweet -- she just got everybody
crying," said Parton, 57, down the line from Tennessee recently in her
familiar girlish trill. "She was talking about how (she loved) t hat
song, Coat Of Many Colors, because when her mom and dad had died, I had
been such an inspiration to her. It was the sweetest thing. She said
something like, 'I wish my mother could be here today,' and when she said
that everybody started crying.
"We just all boo-hooed," continued Parton. "And I was fixing to go out and
sing and I thought, 'Oh, you little s---! You would make me cry."
0311.03-Shania
tapes next special [CountryStars]:
Shania
Twain's friendship and desire to collaborate with Alison Krauss goes to
another level tonight when she tapes a primetime NBC Special with Krauss
and Union Station. Unlike her full-blown concert performance for 50,000
for her first NBC special this year, The Tennessean reports that Shania
will do a stripped-down acoustic show in the round, a la Elvis Presley's
1968 network TV special. Alison and Union Station will back her up, and
Alison also will do some duets with Shania.
0311.03-Last

more than 300 tickets sold per minute.
0311.02-"My
roots are country" [48
Hours]:
The
media hype surrounding this weeks CMA's started tonight on CBS. On their
news show "48 Hours", they focused on "Big Country", profiling: Brooks and
Dunn, Reba McIntire, Kenny Chesney, LeAnn Rimes, and Shania Twain. A
very interesting choice, considering that Shania was snubbed for this
years CMAs. Shania also features prominently on CBS's advertising for the
award show. Shania is billed as "Country's Hottest Superstar" Shania
talked about her video image :“Often sexy...playful
at the same time,” says Shania. “Videos are just something I step into, a
role that you're playing. It's like dress-up time.” But in real
life, Shania says she covers her midsection: “I never walk around with my
midriff open, ‘cause I just couldn't be bothered with worrying if my gut
was hanging over or not.” Shania was
also asked if she was country or pop. Her answer:
“I would definitely be considered a pop artist,”
says Shania. “My roots are country, that’s for sure … As long as Dolly
Parton always likes my music, then I think I’m safe.”
