"I find that the very things that I get criticized for, which is usually being different and just doing my own thing and just being original, is the very thing that's making me successful." - Shania

0411.28-Shania shares pain and pride [CTV]:

Remember to tune into CTV on November 29th at 8pm to see Shania's Homecoming special!!!! This intimate walk down memory lane invites viewers to share the experience through candid behind-the-scenes footage, including her emotional first visit to the "Shania Twain Centre," a museum dedicated to her blockbuster career. The special features a never-before-heard duet recorded at a friends' basement at the age of sixteen, a reunion with her very first band "Long Shot," highlights from Twain's stint as co-host of Canada AM, and an emotional reflection on the tragic passing of both her parents in a car accident.
Here's Shania on …
The Early Days: "My parents would basically come [to the bar] in the early evening and convince the band to let their little girl play later in the night … and the club owner would agree to after hours when they stopped serving. I'd get yanked out of bed at midnight and play a few songs."
Her First Paid Gigs: "I never had to wear heals to perform and certainly [had] never performed in sequins or anything like that … never had so much hairspray in my hair. I never wore all that make-up. I didn't know what it was like to wear these crystal earrings. It was all new."
The Name, Shania: "I guess maybe the Eileen Twain didn't flow as well so there was a girl I was working with at a show in Huntsville, Ontario … her name was Shania. She was from an Ojibwe background and my father was Ojibwe and so, I just thought the association just so uncanny."
Her Parents: "They were always proud of me and they always told me that. … I mean, of course they'd be proud, but they would have just enjoyed sort of making it with me I think… I just think they would have enjoyed every second of it [her success]. They would have enjoyed being spoiled. They would have enjoyed traveling. They would have lapped it up I think."
Her Parents' Death: "When my parents died, along with that also … the dream did die a little bit. I kind of lost the ambition to please them … but by that time my mother and whole family had invested so much time developing me as a performing artist that it felt really dumb to throw it all away."

0411.27-To boldly go....[Yahoo]:

Talent executive Bruce Allen says country music needs to go a long way if it is going to go "international", and he also says there is only ONE artist who is truly global and I think you can guess who that is! Yes, it is the one and only Shania Twain!!!  In Allen's view, only one artist, Canadian Shania Twain, has a truly global career, and he says her ability to cross over to the pop mainstream was a critical element in her international success. Faith Hill and LeAnn Rimes have some international presence, Allen allowed, but they are "miles behind Shania."..."She was always imaged correctly," he said of Twain, noting that in publicity photos of Twain there was "not a boot, spur, fireplace or cactus."

0411.24-TV GUIDE-Canada:

Canadian fans be sure to pick up your copy of TV GUIDE with Shania on the cover next week!!! The cover is basically the same as the USA edition, however the article covers Shania's homecoming and visit to the Shania Twain Centre:

Shania's home! Ben Mulroney gets up close and personal with Canada's country superstar.  "I am a master of the five minute interview. When promoting upcoming movies, actors sit in hotel suites and cycle through people like me, a different one every five minutes. Now, there are two types of journalists that attend these junkets. There are those who feel that while you have a celebrity in a chair, you can ask them anything and everything you want. And then there are people like me: I was given access to Celebrity X for very specific reasons and my mandate in the hotel suite was limited. Cut to Timmins, Ont., where three weeks ago I accompanied Shania Twain as she visited her home town for the first time in years. This was no five-minute interview. For two days, from daybreak until dinner, Shania took me to every old haunt of hers, and along the way, we talked. We visited two of her childhood homes; one was filled with happy memories, the other with struggles. She remembered going to school hungry every day, envious of those who could afford to throw out a half-eaten apple. At her high school, we surprised a classroom full of students, still groggy from too early a wake-up. I was told, hours later, that some of them still couldn't believe their luck. We traveled in style, taking an SUV from stop to stop and CTV cameras capturing much of the trip. But it was in those transitional moments, after the rush of a memory had subsided and we were back in the SUV, that our talks became even more personal. The cameras weren't rolling when we discussed how different our lives were: She was the product of a much harsher reality than my own, and yet we were similar because of the affection and admiration we both have for our families. Suddenly, it was as if a light went on. When she saw me, she saw a person who had been raised by very successful, private parents with meager beginnings. In other words, when she saw me, she saw a little bit of her son. "I want him to be as comfortable on an Indian reservation...as he will be in a grand ballroom." Having never reared a child, I am reluctant to give anyone advice. Instead, I spoke to Shania as the product of rearing, telling her that all she can do is raise Eja to be respectful of the community on the reserve and feel lucky to be in the grand ballroom. In the end, though, unless he is well received in both worlds, that comfort will elude him. Smiling, she said that her wish for Eja is that he be independent and self-sufficient. She joked about dropping him off in the woods for a while so he could learn to fend for himself. Smirking and shaking my head, I took issue, stating that as long as he knew that she was waiting for him at the edge of the woods, Eja's struggles would be like mine: personal, selfish and nothing compared to the hurdles Shania faced early in her life. What makes this exchange so special is that Shania is well-known for guarding her privacy. She married "Mutt" Lange, one of the most successful and reclusive music producers in the world, and then she exiled herself to Switzerland. She keeps her cards close to her chest and is smart enough to tip her hand only when she wants to. Either she was in a very giving and reflective mood having come back to her roots, or she felt really comfortable around me, but I learned a great deal about this woman that I had never read or heard before. The Shania Twain Centre was the pinnacle of the trip. Having accumulated more gold, diamond and platinum records, as well as press clippings, awards, ball gowns and costumes than any one person can deal with, Shania packed it all up in her tour bus and dropped everything off in Timmins. The Shania Twain Centre (in and around Timmins, it is simply and affectionately known and "The Centre") sits atop a hill on one side of the small northern Ontario town. Its wide archways and vaulted ceilings welcome over 14,000 visitors a year, and yet it is as far away from ostentatious as Timmins is from Lake Geneva, where Shania currently calls home. Though it opened in 2001, the ribbon-cutting ceremony had to wait until now; the singer was "very pregnant" at the time, making travel impossible, But on this cold, wet and windy day, Timmins's most beloved daughter came home. And what a homecoming it was! Hundreds of fans braved freezing temperatures for hours to catch a glimpse of the woman who's made them all so proud. As she took to the microphone to officially open the Shania Twain Centre, a francophone fan asked her if she planned to ever record a French song. To the amazement of everyone in the crowd, Shania answered the woman in French. It seems that Eja's French lessons have rubbed off on this mother. By any standard, the woman is perfectly bilingual. How much more Canadian can you get?
The next day, we left Timmins for Toronto, where Shania co-hosted Canada AM. She fed off the live audience in Dundas Square like an old pro. On our way back to the airport, where she was scheduled to fly to Nashville, we talked politics, country music, and the prospect of doing all this over again sometime. Shania Twain is an unparalleled Canadian success story. The expression "rags to riches" has been pinned on her many times, but it doesn't stick because it does not do her justice. Everything she has, everything she is, she has earned. Strip away the shiny trappings of fame, and what you'll be left with is the Shania you will see on her CTV special. It was one heck of a homecoming."

0411.23-CTV Homecoming Special, more info [CTV]:

Hosted by etalk Daily's Ben Mulroney, Shania's Homecoming is an exclusive chronicle of Twain's hometown tour of Timmins tomorrow. CTV camera crews have been granted exclusive access, providing viewers with candid, behind-the-scenes footage from her trip home, including her emotional first visit to the "Shania Twain Centre." Viewers will have an intimate view of Twain's first-time reaction to the museum dedicated to her blockbuster career.

0411.23-Loretta Lynn speaks out about Shania:

In the latest issue of Country Weekly country legend Loretta Lynn had this to say about Shania : "WHAT I LIKE ABOUT SHANIA IS SHE WRITES STORY SONGS, LIKE I DO. AND DOLLY DOES. SHE WRITES FROM HER HEART. AND THE SUITS IN NASHVILLE DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT HER. ALL I KNOW IS THAT SHE CAN SING WITH ME ANY DAY OF THE WEEK."

0411.23-Still the One, sales week two:

Shania Twain's Greatest Hits CD sold 231,126 copies, which is enough to keep the CD at the top of the Billboard Country Album Chart. The CD slips to #5 on the Pop Album Chart. Sales have dropped 56% from the first week, so be sure to spread the word about Shania's new CD, and remember to REQUEST Shania's latest single PARTY FOR TWO!!!

0411.22-"Simply the Greatest" [Country Now]:

There are those in Nashville who say Shania Twain's pop-infused sound is bad for country, as it continues to pull the genre further and further away from its heyday, when the likes of Loretta Lynn, George Jones and Johnny Cash ruled the roost. Others insist that Shania is as much a trailblazer as any of the above-mentioned three, that by adding "nontraditional" elements to her tunes she is advancing country toward a different -- and not inferior -- destination. On the basis of album sales, airplay data, concert receipts and television appearances, there is overwhelming evidence that the latter argument holds more water. Shania, who will turn 40 next August, is still one of country's most popular figures, and from an international point of view, she likely is the most popular.

0411.22-CTV Homecoming Special [STC]:

Be sure to tune in on Monday, November 29th, 2004 at 8:00 p.m. CTV will be airing a "Shania's Homecoming Special" hosted by Ben Mulroney. The special will cover Shania's return to Timmins with various visits around the City of Timmins - Timmins High & Vocational School, the McIntyre Arena, and the official opening of the Shania Twain Centre

0411.22-"I'd love to make a record like Shania" [CMT]:

Alison Krauss in an interview for CMT was asked about her work with Shania.

You've been working with Shania Twain a lot lately as well. What is it about her music that makes you want to play with her? She's an acoustic music fan. I had no idea she liked us. I have a long, long history with the records her husband has made over the years. Those are my favorite rock 'n' roll records that he produced. She called about us. I guess the first thing we did was the [CMT] Flame Worthy show and had a great time. It was so fun to get to sing with another woman. That's always fun. I thought her DVD turned out great, the acoustic versions of all the songs from her new record. It was great. She knows what she likes and what she wants. I had a really nice time. Have you ever thought about making a record like Shania, getting Mutt to produce you? I think anybody daydreams about Mutt Lange's production, and "Oh, what would my vocals sounds like at the end?" He really is into getting the best of the best and will sing and sing and sing until he's happy. ... To have somebody watching your back like that -- and pushing you and really working with you -- I think that would be really fun to be pushed that way.

0411.21-"you gotta have confidence" [STNAOFC]:

In a radio interview from CHUM FM, Shania was asked the following question: MD: If you go back to the younger Shania, when you first started off with your first hit, what kinda advice would you have given her about what was about to happen. What would you have said to her that might have made it a little bit more easier, or a little bit more aware of what was about to happen. What would you have said, being your own therapist.

ST: Well, I would have to say to any… myself, with my personality, um… I mean you have to brace yourself, because… well, first of all, I think my biggest lesson in all of this has been humility. Because, when you’re first starting out… there’s a very difficult balance between humility and confidence. Because, you know, you’ve gotta start out with confidence. You’ve gotta have it!

0411.21-CMT Canada:

CMT Canada's CMT Central visited the Shania Twain Centre while Shania was there to officially open it at the beginning of the month, and host Elissa gave her report on the 11/19 episode. See the captures here.

0411.21-EXTRA:

Mark McGrath has been going on the promotional trail with Shania while she has been in Europe and he has been filing reports on his TV show Extra. Here are a few video captures courtesy of Dax.:

0411.21-Shania wants to help kids [STNAOFC]:

In a radio interview from CHUM FM, Shania said she has plans to help disadvantaged kids. It is something she feels passionately about:

My life. Well, I got big plans with getting involved with helping disadvantaged children, and I will probably start that in Canada. So I’ve got a lot of ideas of how to target that, and I’m going to be focusing a lot on that. So it’s going to take me a while to get the whole thing together, but I’ve just… I’ve GOT to help kids that have been, that are in the situation I was in growing up. And, it’s just going to be very fulfilling, because I think it’s so unnecessary, and I think there’s a way to help these kids and I’m gonna find it.

0411.21-Where is the news?  [All Access]:

Only Countrynation.com, the Tennessean, and Shania fan sites posting the news about "Come On Over" reaching double diamond certification by the RIAA a week ago. Country columnist Jimmy Carter is wondering just like Shania fans have been, why nothing was announced. He posted this in his column last week: "Shania is such a huge star! She's in Europe this week pushing the greatest hits CD. A Double Diamond award is still an amazing feat. I am not understanding why UMG didn't have a big news conference and put that all over TV. Shania is shy I guess … ahhhhhhh" In a press release about the Greatest Hits CD sales, Universal released contacts to get more information  Hopefully there will be some official acknowledgement soon!!!

0411.19-Shania Magazine Interviews:

Shania appears in People Magazine, the 11/29 issue, Shania talks about what she currently has in her CD Player. Shania also appears in In Touch Magazine, here is a brief preview of the interview:

Do you sing to Eja?
Shania: I made up a nursery rhyme, and "ABC 123" riddle. But we probably single "Hey Diddle Diddle" the most.
Were you hesitant to date Mutt because you worked together?
Shania: I've never had any kind of relationship for professional advancement. Once we both realized it was a mutual feeling, we had no reservations whatsoever.
Is it hard to work with your husband?
Shania: We made a rule that we both have to be happy with the result, or we find another way. We have huge respect for each other's strengths, and we know when to back down.

I will have scans hopefully by the end of the weekend.

0411.18-Shania bags a Bambi [Countrynation]:

Shania was on the Bambi Awards in Germany, and won "International Pop Artist. Shania also performed her new single "Party For Two" with Mark McGrath. Each year the German Burda media group honours celebrities from the world of entertainment, literature, sport and politics.

0411.18-Shania on the promotion trail in Europe:

Besides appearing in Holland, and Germany. Shania has also made the publicity rounds in the UK. Shania appeared on the Frank Skinner show, and was asked some interesting questions. Here is a small sample....

Skinner: I have just got into your whole stardom thing. I have tried to look at some aspects of the whole Shania phenomenon. You sang at the superbowl, we have a picture, looking hot if you don't mind me saying. Now the following year when Janet Jackson did it, was there a part of you that thought, why didn't I do that?
Shania laughed. I'm glad I didn't think of that actually, she said.

Skinner: You could say it was a wardrobe malfunction.

Shania: I don't know if I could handle the embarrassment. I probably would be flopping a lot more than that. She kept laughing.

Skinner: Was it windy that night?

Shania: After having a baby you flop more.

Skinner: Not you Shania.

Shania: Oh yeah.

0411.18-Shania chats online [GMTV]:

Shania also appeared on GMTV and took part in a web chat with fans. Shania was asked a lot of good questions and you can read a transcript at the following link! GO HERE Here is one interesting question about one of Shania's favorite things to do:

Palm: What keeps you singing and songwriting?
Shania: I'm constantly inspired by life around me and will allways write music. My passion for creating sounds/music is my way of expressing emotion and the lyrics are how I release stress etc. I guess you could say music is therapy for me. I'll never quit.

0411.17-Shania wins on the red carpet at the CMA:

GAC asked other artists on the red carpet at the CMA Awards who the best dressed artist was. Their answer, Shania.  Emerson Drive shouted out "Shania", But the funniest was Marty Roe of Diamond Rio. He said he was in the front row in 1999 when Shania came out in the pink cowgirl outfit, but he didn't remember anything after that! They finally caught up with Shania who exclaimed, "I won! Already?". Then she laughed, and said it was "sweet".

0411.17-Shania's biggest wish [Country Weekly]:

With a busy career and toddler son, Shania Twain reveals that what she wants most is a little alone time. "I'd like more free time," said Shania to Nashville IQ, "now that I have a child. My career is all-occupying, as all of our careers are, but now that I have a child I have so little time to do things just for myself. I'd like to spend more time riding [horses], I'd like to spend more time cooking, things that just aren't demanding, just time for myself. I think every woman gets to that point when you have a multi-dimensional life where you say, 'Okay, what is there I can do that includes nobody but myself.'"

0411.17-Shania sets another record [Countrynation]:

Based on last week's sales figures, Shania Twain's "Greatest Hits," becomes the biggest country greatest hits package debut in the history of Soundscan, and the 2nd biggest greatest hits package debut overall, behind only "The Beatles #1's"  CONGRATULATIONS SHANIA!!!!

0411.16-Shania Greatest Hits:

Shania's first week sales were enough for her to come in at #2 on the overall Pop Album Chart, and a #1 Country Album Chart Debut. The album sold 530,333 units the first week.

0411.16-Shania appeared on Oprah:

Shania was a special guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show's Dream Wedding Episode. Shania sang the bride's favorite song "You're Still The One".

Video Captures

0411.14-"She's the Total Package" [CMT]:

No surprise to Shania fans, Shania was voted the #1 sexiest woman in Country Music. She was described by the various commentators during the show as "a celebrity icon, who maintains a down to earth nature which comes across in all her videos, You can't imagine Pop Music without Elvis, and you can not imagine country music without Shania Twain, she is the total package, the real deal"

0411.13-COME ON OVER DOUBLE DIAMOND!!!!!:

According to the Nashville Tennessean, Shania's album COME ON OVER has reached DOUBLE DIAMOND status for sales of 20 MILLION UNITS. Come on Over is the best selling Country album of all time. CONGRATULATIONS SHANIA!!!!!

0411.13-Shania, dream wedding guest:

Shania will be a guest on Oprah's TV show on November 16th, for the "Dream Wedding" episode.

0411.12-NEW Domino Record [Domino Domain]:

The new World Record Domino Toppling is: 3.992.397, and Shania was given the honor of pushing the first domino. Shania talked about her new Greatest Hits CD, Eja, and she performed her new single "Party For Two" with Mark McGrath. So request the single everywhere!!!

0411.11-Songwriting is the thing...[Plain Dealer]:

......She does, however, hope that those who buy "Greatest Hits" will appreciate that she wrote or co-wrote all these songs, a feat she says is often "overridden by the image or the fame or the success." "That part of it, the songwriting, has nothing to do with the glamour or the fashion or the fans or being famous or being a star," Twain explains. "It's the meat of it all, and it gets very little attention. So for me, personally, it's a chance to go 'Wow!' and pat myself on the back and go 'Gee, you've really written a lot of stuff and accomplished a lot.'

0411.11-Party with Toby? [CountryStars]:

According to Shania her first choice for a duet partner for "Party for Two," was Toby Keith. They had started out their careers together at Mercury Records doing the Triple Play Tour with John Brannen, and Toby initially said yes. "The trouble was I hadn't completed the song yet," Shania admits.
"I was on tour and it took time to finish the song. By the time it was finished, things had changed and Toby said, or somebody with Toby said they couldn't do, I think because our albums were coming out at the same time. So, I went looking for somebody else."

0411.10-Shania looks forward to family time [CMT]:

Shania Twain, who released her Greatest Hits album Tuesday, said she's only now enjoying the fruits of her labor. "I never stopped to enjoy the moments as they were happening, which is kind of unfortunate," Twain says. "So, I haven't cracked as many champagne bottles open as I probably should have over the last 10 years just because I was always so focused on the future, what's next, and all that stuff. I think this is the first moment I can say is starting to feel good and comfortable. I can look back and say, 'Wow. All this has happened to me over the last 10 years.' It feels really good." Twain also longs for "more free time." "My career is, of course, all-occupying, as all of our careers are," she said. "But now that I have a child, I have so little time to do things just for myself. I would just like to spend more time writing, more time cooking. Things that have nothing to do with my career. Things that just aren't demanding. The parenting is demanding. The career is demanding. "Mutt" [her husband and producer R.J. "Mutt Lange] is pretty darn good, though. He's not overly demanding. So, you know, just time to myself. I think every woman gets to that point where you've got a multi-dimensional life, where you just say, 'OK, what is it I like to do that includes nobody else?' Writing happens to be one of those."

0411.10-"When the songs are written..." [CountryStars]:

In spite of selling over 65 million albums worldwide, over 10 million in the past year, and mounting a two-year tour that grossed over 80 million dollars, Shania Twain was completely ignored by the CMA nominations this year. Many feel she should've been represented in the Entertainer and Female Vocalist categories at least. In spite of that re-buff, Shania showed up to the awards to perform her new duet with Billy Currington and to show her commitment to country music. She had announced that she would be taking some time off, and told us backstage that she didn't know how long that would be, "I've already begun writing. But, it's the writing that determines when we come back out," Shania said. "When the songs have been written, then the album will be done too." But, Shania says she's looking forward to some private time too, to be with her son Eja.

0411.09-CMA Awards:

Shania performed her latest single "Party For Two" with Billy Currington on the 38th Annual CMA Awards. Shania and Billy performed the song on a large set to emulate the video. It is too bad they didn't swing from a chandelier, the show could have used more excitement. As is typical of the award show it lacked any surprises in who won (go figure). It had to be the most boring and lame CMA show I have ever seen. Shania's and Billy's performance was met with hardly a response from the audience. The disrespect shown  to the industry's best selling artist was shameful. If this is the direction the industry is headed, they will be losing a lot of fans.  Show Music Row we support Shania!!!  REQUEST THE SONG-PARTY FOR TWO!!! and make sure to buy her GREATEST HITS CD!!!!!

0411.09-Shania's stunning success [USA Today]:

Be sure to pick up a copy of USA Today, there is nice Shania article along with a new picture of our favorite superstar.  Shania talks about her Greatest Hits CD, Mutt, Eja and riding her horses as well as the first duet partner she thought of getting for "Party For Two". I don't even know if we had decided at the beginning that we were going to have two versions. We knew we were going to do country for sure. We fished around for a lot of different options. Time was a big issue for so many people we thought of. I asked Toby (Keith) if he would do it. He said yes, but then it interfered with his record. He's probably the only other person I approached. It was getting complicated to find somebody who was going to have the right timing. So Luke (Lewis, Mercury Nashville label chief) said, "Maybe we should look at somebody new. It's not like you need the name. Just find the right voice." He said, "Listen to this guy Billy Currington."I wanted to have somebody who was a strong contrast to me. He's got the real deep, Southern voice, couldn't be more opposite from me.

0411.09-Shania wins BMI Award [Business Wire]:

Shania Twain's "Forever and For Always" was proclaimed Country Song of the Year. "Forever and For Always," written and recorded by Shania Twain, won the 36th Robert J. Burton Award as Most Performed Country Song of the Year for tallying the most US broadcast performances during the eligibility period. Included on Twain's 10-times platinum Mercury Nashville album, UP!, "Forever and For Always" was published by her company Loon Echo, Inc., and by Universal-Songs of PolyGram International, Inc., and was co-written with her husband, Robert John "Mutt" Lange (share not licensed through BMI). "Forever and For Always" is Twain's fourth BMI Song of the Year win. It was named Song of the Year at the 2004 BMI London Awards, and her smash "You're Still the One" received the honor at both the 1999 BMI Pop and Country Awards. She was also named BMI Songwriter of the Year at both the 1999 and 2000 Pop and Country Awards and now owns a total of 28 BMI Awards.

0411.08-Stopping to smell the roses [Country Weekly]:

Shania Twain says that her Greatest Hits album, in stores tomorrow, is a time to reflect on what she's done, before looking ahead. "When you're pursuing a successful career, it's hard work and very, very tiring," she admits. "So it's nice to come to the point of doing this greatest hits because I'm coming to the point of sitting back and reflecting on what I've done as opposed to what I still have to do. It's a nice release to say, 'Wow, look at all we've done' and it helps you pause a bit and appreciate all the work."

0411.08-"You are an inspiration"- Shania [NEWS2]:

Fans from all over the U.S. and Canada came to Nashville to see superstar Shania Twain. One young girl in particular caught the country star's eye. She's a Murfreesboro teen who nearly died in a tragic moped accident. On Friday, fan and superstar met..."Tomorrow we are having a party, and there is someone in town who would like to meet you...it's Shania Twain!" said Diane to an excited Jackie. First thing Friday morning, before Shania even came out to sing, Jackie McDaniel got to meet her favorite star - the perfect get-well gift. "Hello Shania! You are looking so beautiful," said Jackie to Shania backstage. "So are you!" said Shania to Jackie. Like the country diva, Jackie had on her pink, too. Both girls hit it off right away. "You are an inspiration," Shania told Jackie.

0411.08-Shania looks back [MSNBC]:

...She’s the first to admit her songs have a strong female perspective. But it’s far more than women who are buying her records by the millions and filling arenas for her concerts.“It’s girls, boys, men, women, grandparents, everybody,” Twain says. “I don’t know why that is. They all relate to it somehow. I think they relate to the sense of humor of it. It’s not straight-ahead female empowerment. Men relate to it because it’s got a sense of humor.”...Twain’s new album, a greatest hits package, comes out Tuesday — the same day at her CMA appearance. If it follows course, it will be a huge success. Her last three albums have topped the 10 million mark, with 1999’s “Come On Over” reaching 20 million and placing her among music’s elite....“As a country artist, she is in a bit of a category by herself,” said Wade Jessen, a chart director for Billboard magazine. “In terms of radio and video exposure, Shania is a bona fide signed, sealed and delivered crossover artist.”...Shania talks about Mutt's influence:
“He on his own has never had this kind of success. And me on my own, I doubt very much I would have had this kind of success. First of all, would I even have found anyone who had so much faith in me? Part of why I think I flourished is because he believed so much in me. He loved my voice; he loved my songwriting. He was my biggest fan.” As for the critics, she says she was ready for them. She had been writing songs and performing since she was a child and was confident in her abilities. And today, she says, most of the doubters have gone away. “There’s so much consistency in the music, so much consistency in everything,” she says. “You can’t really duplicate that if it’s not really you.”

0411.04-CMT Insider Interview [CMT]:

...They're hard to keep track of. That's quite funny. ... But, anyway, that album was the first time we had co-written together. We met and wrote that album basically right away. "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under" was a song that I had already started before I had met him. ... My grandmother used to have this saying about cookie crumbs in bed or something like that. Some silly saying that goes back to who knows when. But somehow I made "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under" basically about cheating, and I thought it would make a cute little title. We ended up writing the song once we met. Mutt liked all those cheeky little song ideas, and so we kind of carried on from there. It ended up being one of the biggest songs I've ever had...

0411.04-Any Man Of Mine [CountryStars]:

Shania Twain's "Any Man of Mine," the melodically militant, men beware attitude song, became her first #1 hit, and the springboard for the monster career that followed. But, in talking about the tunes on her upcoming Greatest Hits album (in stores 11/9): "Any Man of Mine' was a risky song to release," she says, "A lot of people were afraid of it. It was way too edgy for what was going on. Everybody was kind of leery about releasing it. And I remember when I went on the radio tour to introduce all this new music, it was so amazing getting a reaction to that song. Some people just loved it. They just fell in love with it right away. And other people it really did scare. I don't know whether they just didn't like it or whether they thought, "Whoa!'"

0411.03-The Voyage Home [Daily Press]:

Shania came home to Timmins on 11/02. Twain, 39, said the centre had exceeded her expectations.  “From an objective point of view, the displays are beautiful. Everything is really beautifully preserved,” she said. “And I think when fans come here from all over the world, they’re going to get a really honest representation of who I am and where I’m from.” She said she hopes the centre helps bring more visitors to Timmins to learn “all about us Northern Ontario people.” Twain thanked Mayor Vic Power, Georges Quirion, the building’s architect and others. Wearing a pink turtleneck, a pink fleece, a black vest and a pair of hoop earrings, the country music superstar praised Power as a steadfast ambassador of the city after commenting on his good looks. “You’re looking better every day,” Twain said.  “I have to start off with that because the next thing I’m going to say is you’ve been around ever since I can remember,” she added with a hearty laugh. “But really, I think you represent Timmins so wonderfully and it’s so nice to see you year after year.” Power presented the “Timmins treasure” with a painting by local artist Ed Spehar. In an interview after the day’s festivities, Power said Twain’s visit to Timmins will help promote the city across Canada. “I think it certainly highlights Timmins on the national stage. I’ve had so many requests for interviews from different television networks and radio stations. They all wanted to know about Timmins and what the reaction was here.”...Twain reserved special acknowledgement for the centre’s customer service manager Tracy Hautanen for her efforts in getting the tourist attraction off the ground. “From what I hear, they say Tracy would be a really good mayor,” she said with a laugh. Twain apologized for not visiting the centre earlier but said her pregnancy and constant touring made it difficult to make it to Timmins.  Tracy, I'd vote for you if I lived in Timmins!!! You and your staff did an outstanding job, we had a lot of fun!!!!! (I will have more pictures from the event posted on my site this weekend) For more pictures from the event, check out the Shania Twain Centre site.
