0310.31-"She has star power"
[STNAOFC]:
Posted on the STNAOFC, the latest column from Jimmy Carter has some nice
things to say about Shania.
Yes, global piracy over the last 3 years is big.
Aging superstars and weak new stars is not helping. Think about it and
look at the CMA's. No Dixie Chicks, no Faith (she is presenting only), no
Garth, no Trisha … that no list is pretty big. Yes they have some big
stars, but the big crossover artists are gone, retired, resting or
whatever. Shania is on the CMA show, but she's not nominated. CBS shows
her and only her in the promos. She has star power.......Shania, by the
way, is doing an in-the-studio show for her Thanksgiving special on NBC.
The show is taping Tuesday on CMA eve. Allison Krauss is her co star.
Unplugged with Shania is a very interesting career decision. I bet she can
do it and it will show another side of this artist Nashville loves to put
down.
0310.31-"Come On Over" and
ride the Twain
[IDS]:
I will admit it. I am in love with Shania Twain.
From her great voice, her high energy, emotionally packed music and her
gorgeous looks, Twain had the eyes of me and a sold-out Conseco Fieldhouse
in Indianapolis transfixed on her during her two hour and 15 minute
concert last Tuesday night... So begins a GREAT review of Shania's
concert to read more, click the link above.
0310.31-Country's hottest new
duo
[Tennessean]:
Shania
Twain and Alison Krauss are teaming up for a special. Shania's latest NBC
Special, airing November 26th at 9pm will feature Shania singing hits from
her three albums "The Woman In Me", "Come On Over", and her latest cd
"Up!" Alison and Union Station provide an acoustic mix as Shania performs
for a few lucky fans. But the two apparently have
been musically
inseparable since they did Forever and Always together on the CMT
Flameworthy Awards earlier this year. Shania will do a stripped-down
acoustic show in the round, a la Elvis Presley's 1968 network TV special.
Alison and Union Station will back her up, and Alison also will do some
duets with Shania. This is a big dang deal because NBC is airing this —
Shania's second NBC special — during November sweeps
0310.29-"She's Not Just A
Pretty Face"
[CMT]:
Shania's latest video premieres this weekend on CMT USA. Start
requesting the video on CMT. Toby Keith is a special guest on the show
and you can
send in questions. Toby is a former tour mate of Shania's during the
"Triple Play" tour back in 1993.
0310.29-CMT Power List 2003
[CMT]:
CMT ranked the top 10 Country Music Artists tonight.
CMT News ranking of the most powerful movers and
shakers in the world of country music looked at artists' accomplishment
this year in three major areas: CD sales, box office drawing power and
public awareness -- including major media exposure, crossover appeal and
the intangible factor known as stardust. So, it goes beyond mere fame and
wealth. Some artists can exercise their power by what they can do --
others enjoy the power of saying "no" to anything they don't want to do.
Some rely almost solely on the power of their music; still others parlay a
combination of music, touring, TV and movie appearances and a role as
commercial spokesperson for products. International appeal is yet another
factor.
Shania came in at #2, right behind Johnny Cash.
0310.28-Shania returns to NBC
[CountryStars]:
On Wednesday, Nov. 26 (9-10 p.m.), SHANIA will
return to NBC for her second network special this year, taped from
Nashville, Tennessee. With a more intimate concert performance, Twain will
perform unique renditions of her old and new favorites with her friend,
multiple Grammy-winner Alison Krauss and Union Station.
0310.28-Moxie [Countrynation]:
As reported on Country Nation: I see that CBS is
peppering the airwaves with promos for the November 5 CMA Awards on the
network. Guess who's featured front and center in most of the ads?
Here are a couple of hints. She's not nominated for a CMA award. And her
first name is Shania.
Funny how Shania is considered country by the CMA
when they need ratings, yet ignored for any of the awards.

0310.25-One in a million
Country Singer [Detroit]:
"Just about everybody you talk to who has an
appreciation for music says, 'Oh yeah -- Shania. I'm going to be there,"
says Barry Mardit, program director for country station WWWW-FM (102.9) in
Ann Arbor. "And they're not necessarily country fans. I spoke with
somebody who works at an urban station who said to me: 'Shania -- I've got
to be there.'
0310.25-Shania fan makes a
wish [STNAOFC]:
When country star Shania Twain takes the stage
Tuesday night at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, 9-year-old Kaylee
Rienhardt of Dunnell and her family will be right up front having a
once-in-a-lifetime experience. Not only does the family get
front-row tickets, Kaylee will have a chance to meet Shania Twain and have
supper with her, get autographs and pictures with Twain, and even a chance
to come up on stage and sing with her idol.
Kaylee suffers from Moebius Syndrome Plus, a disorder that has given her
many problems since the day she was born..."There was one thing that would
calm her down for the surgeries," Rienhardt said. "And that was when we'd
put headphones on her and let her listen to Shania Twain. It was the only
thing that would soothe her. We'd leave the headphones on until she was
sleepy, and then when she was in recovery, we'd put the headphones back on
her."...Kaylee said the first thing she wants to do is give Shania a big
hug ... "but I won't mess up her hair."
If anyone gets an update on this story, please post it to the link above.

more than three years last month in Hamilton, Ontario. In July, Shania

on whether Shania's touring band, dubbed "The Fabulous Falls" by the fans
will join her or not.
0310.22-Shania and Dolly share
music [CountryStars]:
During Monday's taping of the Oprah Winfrey show
Shania Twain was reportedly quite emotional when talking about the impact
of Dolly Parton's music on her life, especially the songs about growing up
in poverty and humble beginnings (something Shania and Dolly have in
common) reports MJI. MORE - As previously announced Twain and Parton sing
together on Dolly's classic "Coat of Many Colors." Shania also sings her
newest single "She's Not Just a Pretty Face" on the show that will air
sometime during November sweeps.

0310.21-Glad to be on the road
[CountryStars]:
Shania says after being at home for 3 1/2 years, it was time to hit the
road.
"Well, I was looking forward to the change again. I
mean I'm just always going to need change," Shania says. "I've been
in this music industry since I was a very young child, always traveling,
always going new places, meeting new people, so I think it's just in my
blood now and I would be very bored if I wasn't doing this. So I need the
change anyway. "And the 3 1/2 years of sitting to write the music, make a
record, have a baby, was long enough and I really did look forward to just
getting out and then sharing the music and changing the pace again. So
it's again just another refreshing change for me."

0310.20-Shania goes to Texas
[MySA]:
Shania performs in San Antonio on November 22nd. The stop is part of her
attendance- and sales-record-breaking second world tour. Twain's
supporting her album "Up!" — her most unabashedly pop album
yet — which was released last November. "Up!" marked a return to recording
for Twain, whose last album was 1997's "Come On Over." The sleek and
bouncy "Up!" also marked a change in approach for Twain, who released the
album with mixes targeting three markets — country, pop and international.
The Canadian-born Twain burst on the country music scene in the mid-1990s
with a sexy girl-next-door delivery of country-pop-rock that struck home
with everyone from teens on up, making her the hottest country artist
since Garth Brooks with such songs as "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been
Under" and "Any Man of Mine." The last time Twain appeared in San Antonio
was an Alamodome show in 1998
0310.20-Shania keeps her
promise
[Belfast
Telegraph]:
Country music glamour girl Shania Twain kept a
promise to her Ulster fans today - by signing a deal that will bring her
to Belfast next year. superstar will play the Odyssey next February 19, it
was announced by Aiken Promotions. Promoter Jim Aiken brought Shania to
Dublin earlier this year, but a visit across the border had to be ruled
out because of her other touring commitments. "I'll come back soon,"
Shania said then. "I know the passion for country music in Northern
Ireland and I am determined to play there." At one stage Mr Aiken had
considered putting Shania, whose hits include Man, I Feel Like a Woman and
That Don't Impress Me Much, in the open air at Stormont, but once again
other dates got in the way. "I'm delighted that she is now keeping her
promise," said Mr Aiken today "It will be one of the big events of
the year.
0310.20-Shania's Tour is a
hit!!!
[CMT]:
Chet
Flippo from CMT declares Shania's tour a commercial and crticial success.
Shania Twain's current tour is a critical and
commercial blockbuster -- I don't recall seeing such consistently glowing
reviews of a tour's concerts as I'm reading now about Twain's shows. The
New York Post: "What Twain's Garden gig best illustrated was how she's one
of the few country acts -- along with Garth Brooks, Faith Hill and Brooks
& Dunn -- who've mastered playing the big halls without losing the
aw-shucks attitude or shaking the hay out of their hair."
0310.20-Shania visits Oprah
[Countrynation]:
Shania filmed an episode of Oprah today. She is appearing with her idol
Dolly Parton. You can catch the show on November 5th.
Twain and Parton will perform the song "Coat Of Many
Colors," from the new Parton tribute album, Just Because I'm A Woman: The
Songs Of Dolly Parton. Twain will also perform her current single, "She's
Not Just A Pretty Face." According to Oprah's site, the episode airs this
Thursday -- even though some reports give November 5 as the air date. I'm
goin' with Oprah.
0310.20-The mom in me...
[CountryStars]:
So, how is Shania finding balancing motherhood and her career?
I'm not really finding it all that difficult," she says.
"I kinda go with the flow you know, when it comes to
life and music. I think it's because for me it's all the same thing; It's
not like fame and stardom and all of that stuff happened all at once and
then all of a sudden I had a child. It's all happened very, very gradually
over a very long period of time. I waited to have a child, I'm 37 years
old so I think I'm at the point of maturity where it's all falling into a
very natural place for me."
0310.19-"Shania's fans "You're
Still the one"
[Washington
Post]:
Shania performed at the MCI Center on October 17th. Here is part of the
Washington Posts' review:
There's
some twang in much of her canon, and for most of the evening a trio
of fiddlers sashayed in unison, or a traditional
country lap steel guitar wailed in the background. But Twain's music owes
more to Loverboy than Hank Williams. Much of
it is late-'80s pop-metal with a hint of barbecue mixed into the sauce.
There were moments on Friday that sounded like Def Leppard playing a
square dance.
0310.18-"I'm just getting
started"
[Cleveland]:
"I'm thanking my lucky stars with the climate of the
way the industry's going right now," explains Twain, who before making
"Up!" had a son, 2-year-old Eja (pronounced Asia), with her husband,
producer and songwriter Robert John Mutt Lange. "I'm worried about the
music industry in general because it's just affecting everybody. It's just
so down . . . I think that everybody who released an album around the same
time [as 'Up!'] has pretty much come and gone with their albums. "But
we're relieved because we've gone pretty unaffected compared to most other
artists, so we're feeling pretty fortunate. And we're actually feeling
like we're just getting going, to be honest."
0310.16-Shania! at Mohegan Sun
[Norwich
Bulletin]:
....While
the drummers were rehearsing, Twain was meeting about 100 people in a VIP
room. Included in that group was Robert "Bobby" Gauthier, 29, of Moosup.
Gauthier, who has Down syndrome, gave Twain, the proclaimed love of his
life, two lilac roses. She gave him her autograph.
"He had tears in his eyes when he spotted her," said Bobby's mother,
Marty. "She's very special, not a fake or anything." When the lights went
down and the opening riff from "Man I Feel Like a Woman," shook the
bleachers, Bobby was on his feet. He threw his hands back in a "raise the
roof" move and shook his head, dancing and mouthing the lyrics.
A review of the concert can be found
here
....The second half was better-paced. It included a
medley of songs, including “When” and “You Win My Love.” Twain also sang
“The Woman In Me” from one of the arena seats while fans surrounded her.
Another second half highlight came when two New London firefighters joined
Twain on stage because they won a drawing to have their picture taken with
her. And the second half ended with a performance by some percussion
players from the Norwich Free Academy Band. They joined Twain on stage for
“(If You’re Not In It For Love) I’m Outta Here!”
Twain’s three-song encore, for which she wore a white University of
Connecticut T-shirt, included “You’re Still The One,” “Any Man Of Mine”
and “Rock This Country.”
The night ended with some pyrotechnic sparklers coming down on Twain and
confetti raining down from the arena ceiling.
It was a perfect ending to a near perfect night. And whatever side of the
Shania Twain debate one comes down on, you likely saw what you expected.
0310.16-Shania Up! for hockey
talk [NHLPA]:
“I have a lot of fun with the touring, it's the
biggest reward,” said Twain. “I can see on their faces what the songs mean
to them. I'm affected by music, so when I see I'm affecting them the same
way, I really feel I've done what I came to do.” A hectic schedule,
both personally and professionally, keeps Twain busy almost seven days a
week, 24 hours a day. And although she isn't afforded the time to watch as
much hockey as she'd prefer, either live or in person, Twain still knows
the score when it comes to following her favourite hockey stars. “It's a
Canadian tradition and has always been a part of our lives from
childhood,” said Twain, who will perform her new single She's Not Just a
Pretty Face
as well as Coat of Many Colors with Dolly Parton on the Oprah
Winfrey Show this fall. “I can't imagine what it would be like not being
able to watch Hockey Night in Canada.”....As far as choosing her favourite
player to watch, Twain points to a recently retired backstopper, a
record-breaker in his own right, a perennial all-star destined for Hall of
Fame glory....“Patrick Roy was always great, but now he's retired, so I
just love watching the game,” said Twain, who changed six outfits with
themes that represented the six Canadian hockey teams in the NHL, when she
hosted the 2003 Juno Awards at Ottawa. “All of these guys are extremely
talented.” A label that can definitely be applied to one of music's
greatest all-time personalities.
0310.16-"I would spent my
entire show in the audience if I could," [UPI]:
Shania
tells UPI, that she would spend the entire show in the audience if she
could. "It just makes it more personal for me. I
don't know whether that's from playing for years in clubs and having
people so close to the stage, but I didn't like the whole set-up where
you've got barriers and space. I felt very disconnected. "So now it's
completely opposite, which is fantastic. This gives me the feeling that I
am in the audience as opposed to playing out to the audience. I feel like
I'm playing amongst them now." Shania
says she is also happy with the way Up! is doing at this point.
"We've gone pretty unaffected compared to most other
artists," she says. "Pretty much everybody who released albums around the
time I was has come and gone, and we're just really feeling like we're
getting going."
So, what can the fans expect when they see the show?
We've jammed in as many songs as we can," Twain say,
"because I've got so many singles now. And I like playing the singles for
the fans." That, she adds, is why she waited to tour for 10 months after
"Up!" came out. "You want to give people a chance to get familiar enough
with the new music so they can sing along and be part of the show," Twain
explains. "They already know the old stuff, and I want them to be just as
familiar with the new stuff. "To me, that's a big part of the vibe --
familiarity and them knowing what to expect next just makes them more a
part of (the show) as a group. And that's just what's happening. It's
easier to party to a song that you know."
0310.16-"Garden Hayride" [NY
POST]:
The New York Post printed a great review of Shania's Madison Square Garden
show on the 14th. DESPITE Shania Twain using
every arena rock trick - from indoor fireworks to a confetti spray that
briefly transformed Madison Square Garden into a shaken snow globe - her
gig there was such a down-home affair, it could have played any high
school gym in America.
But that's not a knock at the sexy, knockout singer. There was nothing
plastic about her performance Tuesday. She sang well and projected an
authenticity that most performers lose the first time they shed their
skin.....Where she successfully toppled the wall that separates artists
and the devoted was when she left the stage and sang to the fans from the
seats in the lower level. She also toppled that wall by wearing a
pinstriped Yankees jersey with blue jeans instead of the usual spangled
diva duds. She joked at the choice, saying, "Whatever you wear, you always
go wrong - I figured I couldn't miss with this." She was right.....The
show opened with Twain's signature "Man, I Feel Like a Woman" which turned
into a scary sing-along where even the toughest, beer-bellied buckaroos in
the house were accompanying her in the song's chorus exclamation....What
Twain's Garden gig best illustrated was how she's one of the few country
acts who've mastered playing the big halls without losing the aw-shucks
attitude or shaking the hay out of their hair.
0310.16-"That's Mummy's Music"
[CountryStars]:
Shania tells CountryStars.com that her 2 year old son Eja, recognizes her
music on the radio.
"He knows my music and when he hears it on the radio
he'll say 'That's mummy's music,' so he recognizes it," she brags.
"And he's in the studio when we do things, you know, this is a part of his
life since he was born. I was nursing him in the studio between vocal
takes and stuff so this is going to be second nature for him. I don't
think he's going to see it as a novelty of any kind or anything like that
and you know, he socializes with regular little kids and stuff."
0310.15-The long climb to
number one
[Shania
Twain City]:
Shania Twain
City reports that Shania's latest single "Forever and For Always" has
finally reached the number one spot on the Adult Contemporary Charts.
0310.15-Home is where her
heart is [CountryStars]:
So far in Shania Twain's career she's called Canada,
Nashville, Upstate New York, Florida and Switzerland her "home." The way
Shania explains it she will always call Canada home, but right now
Switzerland is a kind of temporary permanent home. "Well, I mean the
world's a big place and I hope to live in many different countries before
the end of my life," Shania reasons. "My base of course will always be
Canada, my family is still there, it's just that through the years where
I'm currently traveling so much, it doesn't really matter where I live.
You know, I'm never home often enough to really call anywhere home but you
do have to base yourself out of somewhere so when I do decide I have to go
back somewhere and unpack and repack to go off on my next trip you just
have to pick somewhere to be that one place and it just happens to be
Switzerland right now."
0310.15-Shania talks about her
tour [CMT]:
Shania says she is comfortable on tour. Check out the multimedia clip.
Shania Twain's Up! tour feels familiar and comfortable.
0310.15-Shania "love-in" at
MSG
[Hollywood
Reporter]:
I
attended my last Shania concert in the New York area. Shania rocked
Madison Square Garden. Shania referenced September 11th by saying "New
York...you truly are the home of the brave!" The crowd erupted into
applause. To see my review of the show, check out the
STNAOFC Board.
The Hollywood Reporter has published a review of the show, to check
it out, click on the Hollywood reporter link above. In
a remarkable display of generosity and good spirits, Shania Twain (news)
spent two hours Tuesday night communing with her fans: signing autographs,
posing for pictures, accepting flowers, paying tribute to a generous donor
to her favorite charity and generally acting
as if she wouldn't rather be anywhere else in the world. And, oh
yeah, she sang too. Country performers have always been known for their
outgoing attitude toward their devoted fans, but this singer, whose rise
to the top of both the country and pop charts has been meteoric, clearly
goes the extra mile. Her show at Madison Square Garden, part of a tour to
promote her double CD "Up!" (Mercu ry),
was less a concert than a love-in. Among the other gestures was to invite
a young girl to perform a duet of "You're Still the One" and singing a
number from the middle of the cheap seats.....Beginning with the
hook-laden "Man! I Feel Like a Woman," Twain, wearing a baggy New York
Yankees jersey and blue jeans (no doubt much to the disappointment of the
men who had escorted their wives or girlfriends to the show) worked hard
to deliver a rollicking evening in the Garth Brooks tradition. She
was backed by a crack nine-member band whose members roamed freely around
the giant circular stage as if they had not actually been introduced to
one another.
0310.15-Shania relates to
Dolly's song [CMT]:
Shania
discusses her contribution to Dolly's tribute album, "Coat of Many
Colors". Shania Twain is accompanied by Alison
Krauss and Union Station on Parton's "Coat of Many Colors" here. "I had to
do that song, and she (Dolly) sings harmony on it as well. It's just like
a dream recording for me," Twain says. "It's a song that was in my
childhood repertoire for many years," the Canadian native recalls. "I know
the song intimately, and it's just something that I related to very well.
I often wore secondhand clothes as a kid." "I've stitched a lot of
my socks back together," Twain says of her impoverished childhood. "We
didn't have a lot of money growing up. I remember wearing rubber boots all
through winter, and we have 40 below winters in Canada where I'm from.
That song of course, I mean it's much deeper than that. But the whole
symbolism of that coat I related to very well."

0310.13-"Few artists give this
hard" [Times
Union]:
Shania continues to wow her fans at her concerts. Check out this review
from Albany:
Few artists give that hard -- especially on Twain's
almost untouchable level. Needless to say, it was an entertaining show,
but not just because of the glad-handing, the pyrotechnics and the
spectacle. Twain and her band also delivered the musical goods for two
straight hours, doling out hits like the opening "Man! I Feel Like a
Woman!" "That Don't Impress Me Much" and "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been
Under" as freshly as if they were written yesterday. Twain's band looks
more punky than country and that fits her sound. It's really mainstream
pop, despite the fact that it is marketed under a country banner and
filigreed with fiddle, mandolin and pedal steel. The glue that holds the
stuff together is the sheer songcraft of Twain and her husband/producer
Mutt Lange, and, of course, her undeniable voice.
0310.10-Get to know her [Newsday]:
Shania
talked with Newsday in preparation of her upcoming appearance at the
Nassau Coliseum.
About the tour:
"I got this time what I wanted the last time," said
Twain, calling from a tour stop in Pittsburgh. "I wanted something much
more intimate. I wanted to be able to touch the people. I wanted to be
very accessible to them and have them very accessible to me. That's why
we're doing it in the round. It's a unique feature - a way to have a
theater setting in these large arenas."
About writing Up!:
"It went by fast," said Twain, laughing. "I wrote it
quickly. I didn't think about following 'Come On Over' with another big
record because I felt I did that already when I followed 'The Woman in
Me.' I was ready at that time to just consider that I had peaked and then
'Come On Over' did so much more than any of us expected. This time, it was
more just thinking about the fans."
The fans are the thing:
"That's the most rewarding part of doing this," she
said. "That's the only gauge of how it's going, the only true reaction.
When I look out there, my audience is the same as it was before. You can
see people of every age, every type of person. It's nice to see people
move with you, that you become part of their memories, that your songs
become benchmarks in their lives." For Twain, it is the stories she hears
from fans - how someone's wedding song was "From This Moment On," how
"You're Still the One" got a couple through a tough time, how "That Don't
Impress Me Much" was a single woman's dating anthem - that mean more to
her than her five Grammy Awards and her Entertainer of the Year awards
from both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music.
"I don't take awards very seriously," Twain said. "It doesn't mean much to
me. The person who's supposed to win never really does, even when the
person who wins is me. I just don't think about it." Twain said she wasn't
really surprised when her "Up!" CD was recently shut out of this year's
Country Music Association Awards nominations.
On her poor treatment from Nashville:
"There are people who have said I've never been
country," she said. "Nothing has really changed." Twain hasn't received a
lot of support from the Nashville country establishment for her latest
"Up!" CD, even after she took the extraordinary step of releasing two
versions of the album simultaneously, one with a pop-leaning accompaniment
and one with a more traditional country sound. Nevertheless, Twain has
already sold 10 million copies of "Up!" around the world and she's
readying her fourth single, "She's Not Just a Pretty Face," for release.
As a side note, I can't wait to see her concert on Sunday!!! I saw her in
NJ, and she rocked!!
0310.10-"Shania cried like a
baby" [Contact
Music]:
Shania
Twain sings "Coat of Many Colors" on the upcoming Dolly Parton Tribute
Album. "Just Because I'm a Woman". Dolly is one of Shania's musical
idols, and requested "Coat Of Many Colors" when she found out about the
album. Parton explains, "Shania said, 'Don't let
anybody have Coat of Many Colours, and Dolly has to sing harmony.'
"After she recorded it, I sang harmony on it and when they sent Shania the
track, she just cried like a baby. "I thought, 'Well, if you can live long
enough and do something special enough to bring out that kind of emotion
in somebody, that's what it's all about.'"
0310.09-Shania shows she is a
class act
[CountryNation]:
Shania
is scheduled to perform at this years Country Music Awards show on
November 5th, even though she has been snubbed this year with no
nominations. This isn't the first time country's biggest superstar has
been snubbed by the small minds in Nashville. CountryNation reports:
After she came up empty handed in the nominations
grab, the addition of Shania has to surprise some. Not that the CMA would
ask her to perform -- but that she would accept. It's called class.
0310.09-"She's not just a
pretty face [Daily
News]:
Reports
of Shania Twain's retirement are premature.
Sure she and her husband - her musical collaborator Mutt Lange - have
nested in a cliffside chateau in the Swiss Alps in search of privacy and
solitude. And it has been 3 1/2 years since she toured to support a new
CD. But her TV special in August was the No. 1 show in its slot, prompting
NBC to book her for a Thanksgiving show. Now Twain, the world's
largest-selling female artist, is on the road again, with sold-out shows
Sunday at Nassau Coliseum and Tuesday at the Garden.
How does Shania like to spend her down time away from the stage?
Twain says, she's hardly the
fashion queen fans see. "I'm a sweatshirt and baseball cap kinda girl,"
she says. "When I'm not on TV, I wear baggy clothes."
How does Shania know if a song is any good?
"You see what the people think of it," she explains.
"If they relate to it, then it's good."
0310.09-''I don't fit
anywhere, I fit with you guys.'' [Boston.com]:
During the show
at the fleet center, Shania explained her songs don't fit into one
specific genre. ''I don't fit anywhere, I fit
with you guys.'' Shania is getting
rave reviews with each new city she visits.
...Twain opened the encore with ''You're Still the
One,'' but before she sang it, she allowed a man in the audience to
surprise his girlfriend by proposing (she said yes). It was a shameless
moment, more Las Vegas than Nashville, but all in keeping with Twain's
populist persona. Someone find this lady an office to run for.
0310.09-Shania interacts with
her fans [Boston
Herald]:
As for the music itself, it was trademark Twain: all
candy coating, no chewy center, drawing songs from all her albums with
nine from her most recent ``Up!'' But it's unlikely anyone in this house
of Twain-iacs was seeking substance. More likely the cheering folks, aged
3 to at least 63, were looking for a good sugar rush and to stomp their
boots. They definitely got that chance as Twain and her energetic
nine-piece band shimmied around her center stage setup churning out the
juicy backbeats of exclamatory pop tunes like ``Man! I Feel Like a
Woman!'' ``Rock This Country!'' ``(If You're Not In It For Love) I'm Outta
Here!'' and ``I'm Gonna Getcha Good!''
0310.07-"it's never done until
it's completely done" [CountryStars]:
Shania says she has learned a lot from working with Mutt.
"Well, I think the biggest thing that I've learned
from him is that you can always do better. There's always a better line,
there's always a better arrangement, it can always be better," says
Shania. "And so I have become better, I think, in many ways - especially
as a songwriter - because of him. Because I'm always going back and
redoing and never considering it's never done until it's completely done
and recorded and always leave room for change and improvement. So that's
been the biggest thing I've learned from him."
0310.07-Oprah..Are you
Shania's biggest fan? [Oprah]:
Do you think you are the biggest Shania Twain fan? Do you own every album
she has ever released? Do you have a room in your house that is dedicated
just to Shania? Would you spend any amount of money to buy a ticket to a
Shania Twain concert? Or have you driven cross-country just to see her
perform? The Oprah Winfrey Show is looking for Shania's biggest fan. If
this is you please email us why you think you are her biggest fan.

PRESS RELEASE:
CMT telecasts STACKED: SHANIA NEW & NEVER
SEEN featuring two exclusive premiere videos and brand new and exclusive
interview footage with multi-award winning music maven Shania Twain
Monday, Oct. 20 at 6:30-7:00 PM, ET/PT.*International superstar Shania
Twain, whose current "Up!" world tour is breaking attendance records venue
after venue, is spotlighted on CMT's STACKED: SHANIA NEW & NEVER SEEN. The
exclusive premiere videos from the current "Up!" album include "Thank You
Baby! (For Making Some Day Come So Soon)" and "When You Kiss Me." Twain,
who conceptualizes and edits all her own videos, discusses the birth of
the latest additions to her videography in the CMT exclusive special.
"Video is a part of the music," Twain tells CMT in exclusive interview
footage for STACKED: SHANIA NEW & NEVER SEEN. "It's an element that just
goes along with it. It's been a creative extension of the music, and a
visual ... and I enjoy videos myself, I like watching videos." After
receiving the fan- voted 2003 CMT Flameworthy Concept Video of the Year
award for her innovative "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!" video Twain says, "I
always (lead in the direction) with my videos. I think it's because I
write all my songs, and I already have a visual idea way in advance."
The video "Thank You Baby! (For Making Some Day Come So Soon)" was shot in
a Vancouver museum and is an intriguing look at Twain as a
three-dimensional exhibit surrounded by classic works of art that come to
life. A complete diversion from the surreal treatment of the former video,
the black and white look of "When You Kiss Me," shot in Auckland, New
Zealand, captures the camera's affection for the playfully flirtatious
Twain. STACKED: SHANIA NEW & NEVER SEEN also features new versions of
formerly released videos "Up!," "Forever and For Always" and "I'm Gonna
Getcha Good!"
0310.07-Shania changes on the
fly [NHL]:
Shania
has filmed a promotional spot for NHL Hockey's 2003 season. Shania is
featured explaining the "line change". Shania's spot will appear in the
USA and in Canada on October 8th.
Hockey players "changing on the fly" may not be too
sexy, but having the sultry singer Shania Twain explain exactly what the
term means certainly is.
Twain, a world-renowned recording artist and Canadian-native, explains the
line change -- how NHL players are required to jump on and off the ice for
their respective shifts in only seconds. Her spot also includes footage
from actual games that demonstrate the speed and energy of hockey.
The Twain and Belushi 0:30 spots will debut in
conjunction with the start of the season Oct. 8, and will air on ESPN and
ABC in the United States and CBC and TSN in Canada, as well as on regional
NHL rightsholder stations across North America.

0310.06-Shania's magic [Shrewbury
Chronicle]:
Here
is one of those touching stories on the power of Shania and her music:
....Music, and especially Twain, a country singer
originally from Ontario, Canada, has served as an inspiration to Hayley
for most of her life. "When she was 2 years old I had her in a special
needs dance program," said Smith. "Her teacher said her musicality is such
a strong point for her."
Later, Hayley experienced selective mutism, where she would talk at home
but not anywhere else. "But as soon as she heard a Shania Twain song, she
would belt it out. That led to her eventually talking outside the home,"
Smith said. "It was such a motivation for her to speak." Despite the
cerebral palsy, Hayley began to walk between age 3 and 4, but the surgery
has forced her to learn to walk all over again. Her mother said the
upcoming concert has been a good motivator to reach that goal "I
tell her, 'You've got to be able to dance to Shania Twain songs at the
concert,"' said Smith.
Smith hopes Twain will sing a few bars of Hayley's favorite song, "Feel
like a woman." "I asked her, 'What will you say to her?' and she
said, 'I'm going to tell her I love her!"' said Smith.
I hope we get an update after the concert.
0310.06-Shania tries not to
burp on stage
[CountryStars]:
Sometimes people forget just how down-to-earth
Shania Twain is, but she's willing to talk about pretty normal things,
like trying not to burp on stage. "It happens to me on stage if I eat too
close to performance, then I've always got to burp on-stage and it's so
hard when you're trying to hold this looooong note and sometimes I tell
you, that happens to me.
"SHANIA'S even more down to earth and normal raising
her toddler, Eja.
"I just bought Eja a little book and it's called, THE FARTING DOG. It is
so funny! This poor dog, anyway he's got terrible gas. He's got another
book that says EVERYBODY FARTS. I guess kids have to come to terms with
this thing that happens to them so people feel they need to write books to
psychologically help them through this, (sort of thing).
0310.05-Shania has a cache of
songs [CountryStars]:
Shania Twain and Mutt Lange have proven that they
are prolific writers of hit songs. It was never clearer than when Shania
set an all time record releasing 11 hit singles from COME ON OVER.
Question is, are they ever going to pitch songs from their stockpile to
other artists? Shania says, eventually they will.
"We have producers and people like that always coming to us for songs but
we do keep them for ourselves right now. And there will be a time when I
will be happy to share the stuff 'cause I would love personally to hear my
songs interpreted by other artists. It would be just really exciting to
me. I'd love for somebody to rerecord some of the stuff I've already done,
even."
0310.05-Shania, coming up
roses [MLIVE]:
Shania has been pleasing her fans to no end on her
new Up! tour. Shania continued pleasing her fans with her spectacular show
in Grand Rapids last night.
Roses.
More roses.
Dozens of roses. Coming from all directions. And all going to one person.
Shania.
"I don't think I've ever gotten this many roses of all the shows I've ever
done," singer Shania Twain said toward the end of her sold-out, two-hour
show Saturday night at Van Andel Arena in front of 12,569 fans.
Song after song, Shania accepted roses from fans of all ages. "I'm getting
totally spoiled tonight," she said.

0310.05-Shania stands alone
Shania
is carving out a career that is earning her respect
in the pop and country music worlds, among male and female fans. That's
something another country superstar, Faith Hill, has had difficulty doing,
and it's something pop stars such as Madonna or Britney Spears could never
dream of. Shania stands alone. Just what is her
appeal? "I think she appeals to men and women,
because she's the package," said Lia Knight, host of the nationally
syndicated radio program "The Lia Show." "She's talented, provocative,
stylish ... she's got it all. I think a lot of people want so desperately
to dislike her, but you can't." The
appeal of her songs?
"Her songs are fun and empowering. The music style
is sing-songy, but if you really listen to the words, you'll understand
they are written by a very strong woman," Knight said. "Shania's songs are
for the everywoman. Sometimes I listen to some of her stuff and I think,
'Man, I could've written that.' "
Shania has managed to stay about the fray caused by the small minded
country music community, where certain lines can not be crossed.
"Female country stars have a fine line they
have to walk if they want to be credible to country music fans," said Doug
Montgomery of WBCT-FM (93.7), who says Shania's music is very accessible
to the 25- to 54-year-old women targeted by AC radio. "Faith Hill learned
this the hard way and now will have to do a 'real' country album next
time. The country fan will turn on an artist in a hurry if they feel
they've sold out to Hollywood or the pop music world."
Shania's secret.... Shania
doesn't let any of the controversy sway her. "She has shown a fiery
determination and has remained committed to her music no matter what
critics -- and even some fans who don't enjoy her crossover success --
have had to say about her," Turner said.
0310.05-What to expect at a
Shania Concert [MLIVE]:
Going to a Shania concert, here is a "guide" as to what to expect. This
guide was created my MLIVE.COM:
The
band: You'll be impressed. Shania's nine-piece band has been with her
for years and shows the tightness of a seasoned group. It comes complete
with multiple fiddle players, a steel guitar, keyboard, guitars and drums
and percussion. Look for a pretty cool drum solo from band member J.D.
Blair.
Surprises: You never know when Shania will jump into the crowd,
bring people on stage or give the shirt off her back for charity. Also,
during her hit "Woman in Me," look for Shania somewhere other than on the
stage.
Pyrotechnics: It's not a rock 'n' roll show, per se, but Shania
makes it known she is ready for a good time.
Length of show: A little longer than two hours; 20-plus songs.
Autographs: Those sitting near the stage might want to bring along
a Sharpie pen for autographs. Shania signs just about everything: shirts,
hats, programs, whatever. She goes out of her way to sign autographs and
accept flowers from youngsters.
What to miss: If Shania follows the same set list as opening night
of her tour last week, she plays a medley of older songs ("When," "You Win
My Love," "Come on Over" and "I'm Holdin' On To Love (To Save My Life)")
toward the end of the show. This is a good time for a bathroom break.
NOTE-DON'T MISS ANYTHING!!!! Shania is
full of surprises!!!!
What not to miss: Hurry back. Right after the medley, Shania closes
the set with a strong finish, including a great sing-a-long on "In My Car
(I'll Be the Driver)" from her current album, "Up!". And the encore will
make you feel like you're at a ticker-tape parade.
0310.05-Shania dazzled the
Randazzos [STNAOFC]:
The Randazzos run a local hairstyle solon, and offered their services to
Shania and her entourage. This is how they describe meeting the
superstar. "She is as beautiful as her pictures and
so down to earth. It was like talking to a friend we've known for a long
time."
0310.05-James Otto? [Mlive]:
Winning new fans has not been difficult for Otto. As
a labelmate of Twain, a copy of his debut CD (to be released in February)
made it into the mega-superstar's hands. She liked it, and he was offered
the prestigious opening slot.......What was it like meeting her for the
first time?
"She's tiny," he said. "Of course, I didn't say that to her face. I just
said, 'Thank you' and she said, 'No, thank you.' She is such a gracious
person."
0310.05-Don't box her in [Star
Ledger]:
Finally! People are starting to get it!
Parr applauds Twain's refusal to play by traditional
country rules. He thinks she has found blockbuster success by simply
knowing her audience. "It's convenient to put people in little
groups, but at the end of the day, people want to be entertained," said
Parr. "She understands that that's what people really want and the formats
and the boxes we tend to put (music) in are maybe not as important to the
general public." Muller feels that the ripple effect of Twain's
popularity has given Nashville a shot in the arm. "Shania has done nothing
but good things for country music, whether it is help people sell records
or help other country artists break into it," said Muller. "There will
always be traditional country, and thank God. What Shania does is just a
variation on a theme. It's just a different style."
0310.05-Shania keeps things
Up! lifting [Star
Ledger]:
Much of the album was written in the wake of 9/11 at
Twain and Lange's home base, a secluded chateau in Switzerland. The
darkness of the global situation only made them more determined to craft
something that would lift spirits. "After what happened, it was
like, 'Why are we even making a record?'" said Twain. " 'Maybe we should
just be sitting and worrying.' We decided that we had to keep moving. We
had to contribute what we can with what we do, which is make music and try
and make people feel good."
0310.05-Shania's in the Dog
Pound [Toronto
Star]:
Shania Twain has been honoured around the world for
her extraordinary musical prowess, won Junos and Grammys and a fistful of
other awards.
Yesterday, she got one that sets her apart from every other entertainer in
the world. She's in The Dog Pound. After unveiling the Raptors' new jersey
along with forward Jerome Williams, Twain received one of the new red ones
with her name on the back and a white JYD sweatband.
"That makes you an honorary member of The Dog Pound," Williams said during
the unveiling ceremony More pictures from Dax:

0310.03-Twain can talk, walk
and rock with aplomb
Shania's tour stopped in Toronto, for a two night sold out
stay. The
Toronto Star ,
Toronto Sun, and the
Globe and Mail have posted some GREAT REVIEWS!!!!
Toronto Star:
Performing in the round, Twain
tirelessly worked the perimeter of the stage, signing her name to tickets,
hats, programs and posters thrust forward by delirious devotees in the
front rows. During "She's Not Just A Pretty Face," she worked her way up
the aisle, returning with a female fan. The audience member, invited to
sing along, didn't fluff a single word.
"It just feels really great to be back here, not only in Cana da
but in Ontario," said Twain, dressed at the opening of the show in a
sleeveless white top stamped with a maple leaf. "It feels like home."
Later, she introduced "When You Kiss Me" by saying, "This song is
dedicated to all of you — a big, fat kiss." The feeling was
reciprocated in the form of the many bouquets of flowers and stuffed
animals bestowed on the singer. Performing with nine enthusiastic
accompanists, Twain belted out the hits, occasionally taking a stool and
slowing the tempo for relatively low-key numbers such as "Forever And
Always" and "No One Needs To Know," a song she wrote during her leaner
years as a performer at the Deerhurst resort. Even these moments were far
from sedate. The colourful burst punctuating "From This Moment On" showed
that even Twain's slow songs come with fireworks.
Globe and Mail:
But she has the most new-wave-looking
band in all of country music, a group more inclined to black jeans and
muscle shirts than to blue jeans and flannel. Moreover, what they play is
an equally eclectic grab-bag of styles, augmenting traditional honky-tonk
fiddle and pedal steel with new wavy synths and guitar power chords
straight from the Def Leppard fake book....Then again, maybe she's really
an arena rocker at heart. She certainly talks the talk, opening the first
of two sold-out shows at Toronto's Air Canada Centre with the hoariest of
arena-rock exhortations. "Are you ready, Toronto?" she yelled to deafening
applause, and when said applause proved not deafening enough, she repeated
the question. "I said, Are You Ready, Toronto!!!"...Fortunately, she can
also walk the walk -- and not just in terms of the way she worked all
sides of her in-the-round stage setup.
Toronto Sun:
And when Twain and one of her guitar players
appeared seated in the audience to sing The Woman In Me (Needs The Man In
You), fans were beside themselves. Also good were the moments of genuine
spontaneity like when Twain dragged a young girl named Debra up to sing
the words to the female empowerment song, She's Just Not A Pretty Face.
Fan and singer stood side by side, arms swinging, hand in hand, smiling at
each other -- and it seemed pretty real. That poignant moment was balanced
by a much funny one later when Twain brought up a female Shania
impersonator because she was so impressed with her revealing outfit copied
from the I'm Gonna Getcha Good! video. "Did I really wear that?" said
Twain, checking it out. "She's not really nude under there. It sure looks
pretty nude."
0310.02-The
Tour is the thing [Toronto
Star]:
"It's daunting. It's very tiring. At the end of
these three weeks, I'm going to be exhausted and the tour's just going to
be started," says the 38-year-old Twain, curled rather fetchingly into an
armchair in sweats and black ball cap while an enormous German shepherd
named Tim sprawls nearby. "We're all very excited. It's like building a
house. It's fun, and I've been very involved in the whole process."...The
immodest UP! road show — featuring production design by Mark Fisher, the
man responsible for the sets on the last few Rolling Stones tours and U2's
Elevation extravaganza — kicked off in the Hammer on Sept. 25 and arrives
in Toronto for a sold-out run at the Air Canada Centre tonight and
tomorrow......"The fans know what
they like, and that's all that matters to me. That's who I'm trying to
please. I want to please the fans. That's my goal. If you're gonna throw a
party, you want people to go home and say: `That was a great party. The
food was great, the atmosphere was great, the host was great.' Then you
feel like you've gone through the effort for a reason. The more people who
enjoy it, the better you feel, the more rewarding it is."....A control
freak? I think I am, probably," she agrees. "I'm a typical leader type.
I'm a hard worker ... I'm a multi-task person. I do it all. You just learn
to function like that. I'm never not creative. I just say, `Well, this
month I'm working on the stage design, so I'm not doing anything else.'
I'm involved in everything — that's the thing. I don't just say, `Design
me a stage and I'll just show up.' I have to be involved."
0310.02-Shania
takes on her critics [Toronto
Star]:
..."How
can you not look at it like that? I can't even imagine looking at it any
other way. If I just wanted to make music so no one would hear it, not
caring who liked it or who didn't, I wouldn't bother recording it, would
I? Why release it? Why have a record deal? Just sing in your bedroom, stay
in your basement. Where's the integrity in that? "I think that's
the biggest problem a lot of critics have with artists who get really big
— they just don't see any credibility there. But what's not credible about
that? Tell the guy who proposed to his girlfriend to your song that
there's nothing credible about it. Tell the little girl who's dying of
cancer that Shania Twain is not credible. It's so ridiculous. People live
their lives with your music and that's what I've always wanted: Real
people to listen to and enjoy the music that stands for me."
WAY TO GO SHANIA!!!!!!!
0310.02-The
Mom In Me [Toronto
Star]:
Shania says
family comes first:
I'd quit before I'd abandon my parental
responsibilities," she says. "Anyone would say that. I would never
compromise my parenting for my career. Ever. And that's why I decided to
become a parent later in life. But it's working out great — I don't feel
like anything's being compromised. I'm enjoying both ... "He (Eja)
has been around for all the promo and stuff. We've been traveling all
these months. We've been on the road for a whole year. There's more of a
pattern to touring than there is to regular promotional travel, so it's
actually going to be easier."
Although the UP! tour will extend almost to the end
of 2004, Twain is already gearing up for the creative renewal that comes
with a change of pace. Writing for a new album could commence on the
road, she says, and touring will likely be followed by another extended
period of hibernation while she focuses first on being a mom, then once
again on something to keep the masses happy. "I enjoy the break
from the stage, actually," says Twain. "It's something I like going in and
out of, and I think I appreciate it more and I enjoy it more because I do
step out of it. I've done that twice now. I didn't tour at all during The
Woman In Me — I stayed completely off the road during that time — and now
again, I've had a break between these two albums. And I like that, I like
pacing myself. "I'm not an adoration junkie, either. I don't need my fix.
I think a lot of people see it as their fix, their fix of adoration, and I
don't need that. I just see it differently. I enjoy it. It's like a party,
so when I get into `party' mode I enjoy that for as long as it lasts, and
when it's over, I'm cool."
0310.01-Shania talks pets [Animal Fair]:
This
issue is available at Barns and Noble and Borders Bookstores. Shania talks
about pets. Shania is featured on the cover with her guard dog Tim. There
are two more pictures in the issue.
Some interview highlights: [Scans to be posted
shortly]
"Shania named her German Shepard Tim after Timmins,
Ontario, where she spent her childhood." "Her other children,
"belong to the equestrian family, each bearing unusual names such as
Tango, Shadow, Queensy, Ole' (who was rescued) and Chief. Sadly, on of
Shania's much loved horses, dancer, passed away last year."
"Shania shared with Animal Fair a funny experience with her dog Tim. While
on tour once, Tim was hanging out on the tour bus. When Shania walked onto
the tour bus she startled Tim and he jumped on the kitchen counter,
turning on the faucet in the sink! Tim ended up flooding the whole bus.
"It was hysterical," Twain." [Thanks FV

Struts as 18,000 Roar [Democrat
and Chronicle]: Shania takes Buffalo!!
The 38-year-old Twain is a dazzling,
clean-cut beauty, which she used to its fullest effect in the videos that
rocketed her to stardom. Twain was the first country performer to take
video to the hip-hop/David Lee Roth level of cartoon sexuality. The crowd
roared with approval when she announced that her T-shirt from the show had
been auctioned off, with the proceeds going to charity and the sweaty
shirt to the high bidder. Twain relates well to her audience,
frequently signing autographs and accepting flowers from fans approaching
the stage. She crawled into the crowd to serenade a fan with “Happy
Birthday.” Under cover of a comedy drum solo, she and her guitarist crept
unnoticed into the 100-level seats and sat for an acoustic “The Woman in
Me.”
