0409.30-Timmins snubbed by movie [Daily Press]:

The CBC Shania movie based on the unauthorized biography "Shania Twain" by Robin Eggar will not be filming in Shania's hometown of Timmins. Timmins will be little more than a glimpse in the movie about singing sensation Shania Twain. A camera crew will be coming to Timmins to shoot background and iconic images of the city, but no scenes will be filmed where Twain spent her younger years. Timmins Mayor Vic Power called the plan, “a horrible miscarriage of justice.” “A movie about Shania Twain should be shot in Timmins,” Power said. “To me, that’s a bit like making a movie about the (Toronto) Maple Leafs and filming it in Montreal. This is her hometown, and it certainly should be shot here.” Most of the scenes for the two-hour movie will be shot in Sudbury. The film, a project of Barna Alper Production, will air on CBC Television in spring 05...We’ve talked with the producers and showed them the sites of interest in the city,” she said. “We’re disappointed about their decision because it would be great to have something like that in Timmins.” Despite Timmins’ exclusion, Hautanen remains excited about the movie. “Most of the time you’re staring at the people on the screen anyway, not the stuff in the background,” she said. “As the producers explained it to me, when you’re watching a movie, a school is a school.” Hautanen and Saari both cautioned that the movie is based on an unauthorized biography on the performer. “Shania is not participating in this,” Saari said.

Wearing a 1980s perm, brown contact lenses and carrying a guitar case, Meredith Henderson settles comfortably into her role as a young Shania Twain. Although the blue-eyed actress says it's a challenge to emulate the country sensation in the upcoming CBC biopic, Henderson says she has been able to tap into her own musical background for inspiration. "There's no way I can be Shania," the 20-year-old says during a break. "The main thing is capturing the heart and struggle, the passion and the drive that she's had."

When Billy Currington recently traveled to London to shoot the video for his new duet with Shania Twain, "Party For Two," his singing partner made quite a lasting impression. Billy told X Radio Networks that Shania went out of her way to make sure he was okay. "Her people that work for her, I remember on the set of the video it was around lunchtime and they walked over to me and said, 'Billy, Shania wants to know if you will come over here and eat with us?' And I'm like, 'Yea, thanks for asking, I'd love to!' And on the walk over there, they told me that Shania wanted them to really take care of me. And all these things that they were telling me about that she wanted for me, I'm thinking, 'How cool it that?' How sweet for an artist of her caliber to care like that in her busy time, all the things that she was doing on the set, that she cared about how I was and how I felt, and if I had what I needed."

Tonight's part two of the ETalk interview with Shania, they showed a very short clip of the new video, "Party For Two". Shania also mentioned she would like to interview George Bush, and on a lighter note, would love to interview her idol, Dolly Parton.

Shania appeared in a short interview on CTV ETalk Daily. Shania talked about her love of Hockey, her favorite TV show growing up, "The Beachcombers, and she mentioned that she would have appeared on Canadian Idol. She said her mom would have had her on when she was two. She also said she probably would not have won, since she didn't win any contests growing up. You can watch the interview online. BILLY CURRINGTON says he spent two days shooting the clip all over London, England. Currington says he plays the love interest, "that goes around London, picking up little notes, clues at different places. They lead me eventually to a place where where I have waiting for me, a 'Party for Two,'" Billy reveals.

Shania says Switzerland is home:

..she sees no end in sight for her status as a Swiss Miss. The Canadian country-pop superstar and her mega-producer husband, "Mutt" Lange, may be in the process of buying a multimillion-dollar ranch in New Zealand, but she says she plans to raise their 3-year-old son son, Eja, in her adopted home of Switzerland. "It's just a property to visit, this is our home," said Twain, 39, yesterday in an exclusive Canadian print interview with the Toronto Sun in Montreux. "We're not moving. We're staying here. Eja will go to school here. I look forward to it. He speaks French fluently. It's his first language."

"Party For Two" a flirty song, and video:

The singer said the song itself, which was recorded in two versions -- a country rendition with Savannah, Ga., newcomer Billy Currington and a pop take with Sugar Ray front man and now Extra host Mark McGrath -- recalls the vibe from her last multi-platinum album, 2002's Up! "Party For Two is kind of picking up where I left off," said Twain, who has sold close to 80 million albums worldwide. "It's a pretty typical Shania-type lyric and feel. And there's not really a gap between the last CD and this CD per se. I just got off the road so the flow just continued."...Still to come is the soon-to-be released video, which she just finished editing, and sees Twain swinging from the chandeliers, even though the clip was shot outside in a London, England, park at night. "It's very interesting. It's cool. We smash dishes. We swing from the chandelier. It's really fun. "It's a party right? You know, it's really just a fun, flirty song. You know it's not sexual. It's a party. It's very flirty but obviously when we get there we just have fun 'cause I'm not into that kind of sexual thing."

"Shania: The Movie":

I'm not really crazy about the idea because if it's not correct (the public will) get the wrong idea of what my life is all about -- so that's a little unsettling," said Twain, who was raised in Timmins, Ont. "And who portrays you too, I mean what if they don't portray you (right)." On that front, Twain was more than willing to check out a photo of the girl, Meredith Henderson best known for YTV's The Adventures Of Shirley Holmes, cast to play her. "I don't know who she is. She sure looks lovely. She looks nice. I mean I'm sure she'll do the best job that she can. She's only going to take direction from whoever's directing."

"Shania does not rule out a future tour"

Twain said she is coming to Toronto to do promotion after she performs Party For Two live for the first time at the Country Music Awards in Nashville on Nov. 9. There won't be a tour, however, to go with her greatest hits collection "I just got off the road. I'm not going back out for a while. My bus is parked. It's in Timmins. It's on display. In the new issue of Entertainment Weekly, Shania mentions the three new tracks on her first ever Greatest Hits collection. Here is an excerpt from the article: That's why we're craving the new confections, which will also include the ballad "Don't!" and "I Ain't No Quitter," a country foot stomper harking back to her twangier days. "These songs would've been the beginning of my next record," says Twain. "They're really strong, and I've got mixed feelings, because it would've been great to have that power behind [an all-new] album. But I need the space to write and I don't want to disappear for another two years."

Twain's recently wrapped 2003-2004 UP! Tour reached nearly $80 million overall in ticket sales for North America. The 2004 leg alone brought in over $34 million, making this leg of Twain's tour the top grossing country tour of 2004.

The DVD also features bonus footage including interview, behind the scenes footage, and fan commentary

A few weeks back Billy Currington was advised that he was going to get an important phone call and they couldn't tell him who would be on the phone.
"It's an important person," they assured him, "so answer the phone."
"The next day the phone rang and I instantly recognized the sweet voice of Shania on the line," Currington said. Shania told him she and Mutt had found a song that they thought his voice would be perfect to sing on with her and would he be interested in coming to Switzerland to sing on it? Of course, Currington said yes and he was soon on a plane to Geneva where he was met and taken to a studio near Geneva to record, "Party For Two." "I didn't get to go to their castle, or chateau I'd heard so much about," Billy said with mock disappointment. "Mutt and Shania couldn't have been sweeter to me. We sang the song through 6 or 7 times, they said it was great...and I turned right back around and was back on a plane to the U.S."
Billy says within a few days he was back on a plane again, headed to London, this time for a two-day video shoot for "Party For Two." "We filmed 17 hours one day and 24 hours the next. And I tell you, Shania is so smart and really knows what she wants," Currington observed.

0409.15-Ole Shania is getting her farm [Bloomberg]:

Shania Twain gained approval to buy a farm on New Zealand's South Island, according to a government statement. Twain and her music-producer husband Robert `Mutt' Lange were cleared by New Zealand's Overseas Investment Commission to buy two pastoral leases on Motatapu Station and Mt. Soho Station at Wanaka, a resort town in the Southern Alps, according to a statement from Finance Minister Michael Cullen. As a condition of the sale, Twain and Lange agreed to spend NZ$1.6 million ($1.1 million) over three years to develop the property, protect about half the land by covenants and create public-access tracks, Cullen said in the statement. No price was disclosed. The land is leased from the government.

According to members of Shania's touring band, "The Fabulous Falls", some of them will be joining Shania at the CMA's on November 9th. They will also be going around on a promotional tour (most likely TV appearances) with Shania to promote the album in North America.

Shania's new single "Party For Two" is available for $0.99 on iTunes. This version is the duet with Billy Currington, which contains a sexy intro by Shania, that is not available on radio at this time.

Jude Law wrote Shania a letter trying to persuade her to act in a movie. The country superstar has a small cameo in David O. Russell's I Heart Huckabees, playing herself. "She's an amazing global icon who is right smack in the middle of what they call the golden average," said the director of his choice to cast the singer. "She tickles me." In I Heart Huckabees, a film about a hapless environmentalist's quest to solve some existential questions, Shania Twain is tabbed to be the celebrity guest at a fundraiser to save a marsh. The night of the event she lashes out at a selfish, power-obsessed organizer, played by Jude Law. Dustin Hoffman, Lily Tomlin, Mark Wahlberg and Jason Schwartzman also star in the film. "We tried to get the Dixie Chicks but we couldn't even get ahold of them to do something else. She lives in a castle in Switzerland and Jude Law wrote her a letter asking her to be in the movie - on his own, he didn't tell me till later," explained Russell, whose previous projects include Flirting With Disaster and Three Kings. "She came and she was a doll. She did whatever we wanted for a day and for a superstar who didn't know us she did the crazy stuff we asked her to do. She was a good egg," he added. I Heart Huckabees opens Oct. 1 in select theatres.

Jimmy Carter, a well known and respected TV, Radio and now a columnist recently commented on Shania and her treatment by the CMA:

The snubbing of Shania: Again no nominations and if the CMA voters don’t think she has one of the top five shows of the year then fine. It’s their view. But, what a major hypocrisy, if in the same breath you announce she is the first performer invited to perform. The Music Row bosses and voters will use Shania to get a show rating but will not show her the respect of even a nomination. In the words of the Riders in the Sky, It’s not the cowboy way!

Shania has donated the use of her song "Forever and For Always" to help raise money for breast cancer research on Long Island, NY. The CD entitled : "Yesterday & Today 2004: Standing Abreast For A Cure". The CD contains hits from a variety of different artists. The station does not have the ability to take orders online. Shania Twain is no stranger to photo shoots, but she doesn't usually share the lens with another species...in this case one of her pets. Shania will appear with one of her pets in the Animal Rescue Foundation's 2005 celebrity pet calendar. Organizer Tony LaRussa (manager of the St. Louis Cardinals) also recruited Oscar winners Kevin Costner, Clint Eastwood and Gene Hackman, and tennis star Venus Williams for the annual fundraiser. To the fans that have taken the time to request the song, GOOD JOB, but we need to do better!!!! Oh, and any Long Island fans out there, I'm starting to feel like I am the only fan here, start requesting the song on WPLJ, WALK, and LITE FM. For fans on the east end of the Island, request the song on the Connecticut Country Station 92.5!!!!! It is pathetic that Shania's new song has no airplay here in the metropolitan area!! 0409.08-Shania Movie Update [Ottawa]:

Meredith Henderson, known to legions of young TV viewers as the title character in YTV's The Adventures of Shirley Holmes, has been announced as the star of the new CBC-TV movie Shania, the life of singing superstar Shania Twain. "She commands the camera and, can she sing? Yes!" said director Jerry Ciccoritti, who has just returned from checking out locations for shooting in the northern Ontario communities of Sudbury, Huntsville and Timmins. The movie is scheduled to begin filming Sept. 20 but Ciccoritti wasn't sure if it would be completed in time to air during the approaching 2004-2005 network season....The Shania screenplay will chronicle the story of the female superstar from 1973 to 1993, including her start with a Sudbury garage band and her fateful meeting with music producer and future husband Mutt Lange, who helped transform the gangly Eileen Twain into Shania. The screenplay is by Shelley Eriksen and will be produced by Toronto's Barna-Alper Productions. To read more about Meredith, check out her website.

According to People Online, Shania Twain, sporting a chic new 'do, takes a break while shooting one of her two videos for "Party for Two," the first single off her greatest hits album (due Nov. 9), Friday in London. The song was recorded twice, with one version featuring Sugar Ray's Mark McGrath and the other country's Billy Currington. Past reports have already said the video has been shot.
